The owner of the company loves me and is originally from the Boston area so she offered to contact some of her friends up North to see if they have any positions available for me. Today she e-mailed me and asked me to bring in my resume on Thursday because she has a friend who might have a finance position available for me. This is definitely of interest to me because it?s a step away from customer service and towards the finance and operations work I enjoy.
So I need to bring in my resume tomorrow and I asked J to help me make it boss friendly. In my resume I mention some of my more prestigious clients and I?m wondering if that?s kosher. They?re all customers who have had their stationery published in magazines or have given us permission to use their names in the press.
What do you think?
Re: Advice
I'd say no. I don't think a publication agreement includes resumes, but this might be industry-specific and different for small businesses.
My concern would be, as a hiring manager, Well, she's not keeping her client list confidential...Red Flag.
Perhaps if you could indicate *used with permission* somewhere?
I think it's sufficient to say "high profile clients in x & y industries" or something to that effect.
This is very close to what I was thinking of changing it too. I was afraid that might be the perception, Aria. Thanks, I'll take that under consideration. I was concerned because I don't have a lot of hard facts in my resume (like "increased sales by 18%") because I do a little bit of everything. I thought that evidence of working with high profile clients would be a good point, but I see why it's probably not a good idea.
This. I'd feel uncomfortable disclosing others' personal information like that on my resume. I think it's perfectly fine to generalize, like Aria suggested.
Since you're giving it to the HBIC, in your cover letter to her include them all:
"Remember when I went out of my way for Mickey Mouse and the time I upsold Porky Pig? And how Oprah will only buy her stationery from me because I'm AWESOME?"
Since she's privy to the list, it's cool. And if she passes that info on to her colleagues, that's on her, not you.
Ha! One of your statements is actually true . . . and it's not Mickey Mouse!
Thanks, Aria!
I can't believe you upsold to Porky Pig....that's so cool!!!
Good luck with the job hunt. It would be great to land that financel job.
AHHH, Athena! You beat me to my joke! Great minds.
