Gift ideas for Mothers Day?

Any good ideas?  I dont have any idea right now.

Are you getting presents for your MIL this year too or just letting DH handle it?

Re: Gift ideas for Mothers Day?

  • I'll probably get my mom a g/c to her favorite store. She wants to buy a D & B purse.

For MIL we are combining her bday and mothers day gift since they land on the same day. She mentioned wanting a GPS so we are planning on buying that.  I tend to be in charge of all gifts and M makes the final decison on his family gifts.

  • Good post hawki! I need some ideas too. My mom likes to read so I am thinking of getting her a book by one of her favorite authors, but it feels kind of lame to do that too.

As far as MIL, all the siblings go in on a big gift for her, so that is taken care of by one of the BIL's.

    Looking forward to others responses.

  • We will probably just get my mom a GC to the local greenhouse so she can finish her flower beds. J's mom just gets some hanging baskets. Kinda lame, but that is what she wants.

  • We don't give gifts on my side of the family, but we usually try to for DH's side.  DH's family also lost their home in Hurricane Katrina, so it's really easy to find something they need.  For the past few years we've been focusing on their kitchen, so I think we'll get her some cooking utensils.
  • MIL is easy - she keeps an excel spreadsheet updated with a gift list on google docs (which I think is completely ridiculous yet nice at the same time) - most likely we'll get her a couple of books off of it.

My mother is a health nut, loves to garden and read but doesnt really have time for either, and loves wine.  So whatever we get her - it will probably relate to one of those things but it also has to be shipped since we wont see her til Memorial Day weekend.  I usually do something jointly with my siblings but we are all stumped this year.

  • I'm a mama and would like a massage and some cheesecake ;)
  • My mom hates mother's day.  Well, she doesn't hate it but she says "If you don't love me the rest of the days of the year, one day is not going to cut it."  So I usually make a donation to a charity she would like, or something that is related to mothers.  If you go to thehungersite.com, they have a gift shop where you can buy donation "gifts."  For example, last year I got my mom a midwife in Burma (I guess my donation paid for a Burmese person to have midwife training?).  Then I sent her a print-out of the receipt with a card saying now other women can be moms and I hoped they were as good as her.

C is terrible about remembering birthdays and gifts.  Seriously, I thought his parents would drop dead of the shock when they started getting birthday presents because I was in the picture.  Since I have taken over the gift-giving, I usually give his mom something similar to mine.  I think for mother's day last year for MIL we paid for a rescue horse (she loves animals).
