Could you please give my two bff's the memo that just because you are a mom now, you life doesn't have to stop?
You are so great at balancing friends and little Ryan. I wish my friends would follow your lead.

Hey Ang,
Not to butt in.. but I wish I could have more of a life! Maybe I'm more of an extenuating circumstance tho. I have the two kids now, and I don't see DH much at all. He goes to work and then an exec MBA so he's never home, or he's studying/working on papers/etc. Its me and the kids 24/7. I haven't been away from them for 6 months. The only time I ever get a break is about 9:30pm when they go to bed, at which point I shower or clean the kitchen, do laundry, etc. We don't have any family to help, and I am a transplant, so I basically had to start over when I moved here.
Life definitely doesn't have to stop, but I have been more stressed out and worn out than I ever have been! My situation is a little extreme I guess.
BTW if you were a little closer I would beg you to kick my butt to work out! I gotta get back in shape, but not sure how that's going to happen!

I think though it might be rarer to be in my situation? (I'm not arguing/debating
My parents are deceased, and the IL's are not really a part of our life. For example, when I needed emergency surgery, we had a handful of people we could call to take care of my DD (not to get into it, but it was my m/c, so it had to be someone we could explain what happened, not necessarily our "regular" friends who didn't even know I was pregnant). When I had my second DD, we had a family friend take the day off work when I had my c-section, because there were so few people who could do that. It is tough not having normal back ups.
Also I rarely see my DH. He is either not home or he is working at home. When he has free time, we spend it together as a family (I'm talking about a couple hours a week).
Lastly, we don't hire people for stuff, so no housecleaner or babysitter. Someone mows the lawn but I do everything inside the house and then the yardwork too.
I definitely get out, I see friends etc, but I have no way of going away on my own to do things, if that makes sense. I can't take an evening to go somewhere w/out the kids, and most weekends DH has classes or projects to do. But, I grew up with a single mom and she took me everywhere, so I don't mind the kids being with me for most stuff.
Sorry.. this got long-winded! I hope I didn't sound argumentative. I think tho it gets easier as the baby gets older and more versatile in that sense too.

I can't tell you the amount of respect I have for you based on this.

Maybe I'm lazy, but I would take any help that I could get, especially if it means more free time?!
I totally agree with honeydew. If it saves your sanity, gives you more free time for you and DH and with your kids, why wouldn't you?
While I am understanding of my friends circumstances and responsibilities, I do agree that it is up to them to keep the plans they make with us.
I am not talking about "oh no, little M is sick, sorry we have to cancel", its more like "oh no, I forgot that I have 3 birthday parties to go to that I forgot about, can we reschedule?". Sure - but then that never happens.
I am truly mourning the loss of some friendships. I have tried for 3 years with one friendship and I just can't give 110% and get nothing in return.
Of course, I would agree with this also. If you can swing it, go for it!! Heck, I would even come by for a cup of tea and help you vacuum if it means getting some girl time!
First let me say Yay to Marcy for juggling a job, a family and still having a life! It was great seeing you and R (and your DH briefly) last night.
Secondly, AFox, have you ever thought of getting a mothers helper? Someone learning the ropes to babysit in the future. That would be really cheap since it's young kid and you could still be home but have the helper watch N while you fed H or clean or something. Then you'd have some more free time when you actually have them both in bed, asleep. You'd be able to relax during this time instead of cleaning and doing all the other chores. Just a thought.
Wait, I think i was taken the wrong way...I have a huge amount of respect for ArcticFox b/c she's still on the nest, does stuff with the kids, etc...There's no way in HE!! that I would be able to manage what she does...Heck I had a house cleaner for just DH and I...
