I'm sad.
My grandparents have all been gone for more than 15 years. And even when my last living grandparent died I was just 10. I don't think you really get death at that age. Certainly I knew what was happening, but people process things much differently at that age than as an adult.
All that to say, I don't know how to deal with this.
At this point we know my MIL got a call to head to VA because GMIL is not doing well. MIL will arrive tomorrow and we won't know more until then. I hope that things aren't as bad as they seem.
I'm very glad that I was able to meet her last year and I'm glad Vik was able to see her again for the first time in about a decade.
I would love to go out there and see her again, but there is no way with Vik's work schedule that that could work. But what if we don't make it in time? Then, what about the funeral? Would we go to the funeral? I don't think we could do both, just because that's quite a bit of time in VA. I think we would be able to make it to the funeral since Vik is entitled to three days of bereavement leave.
WWYD?

~~~MARRIED BIO~~~
I'm hesitating on answering this. My grandma passed away a little over a year ago and I was told as we were flying away from home (got a call when we were waiting for the next flight at a layover) that it was a matter of time. We decided to go ahead and keep the trip (was a DH work conference that I was tagging along on) and she passed away while we were gone so I never got to see her.
She had been going downhill and talking about being ready to go for months, since my grandpa passed away, so for me I'm not upset that I didn't run out to see her. But that was my situation.
Maybe wait and see how bad it is... and if it's bad enough you could go out there to say good bye and stay for the funeral; combine it into bereavement leave?
Go now. He'll be happier to have seen her alive one last time.
this. I've only lost one grandparent and I would do this in an instant.
I just talked with Vik. He wants to wait until his mom can get out there and give us a status report.
So, we're on hold. We may take off tomorrow and head back Sunday or we might wait and go Monday-Tuesday.
On the positive side of things, I was able to find round trip tickets for about $400 pp - pretty good for last minute, IMO.
Thanks for the advice.
