Prom Night!

I had a strange dream last night about attending my high school prom, and it made me wonder. . .what was your high school prom experience like?

Tell me some stories, ladies!

Re: Prom Night!

  • I had the sweetest date ever.  He was such a gentleman and was so quiet and a little nervous but totally sweet the whole night.  We had such a great time.  It was more of a friend think, but, still.  I smile just thinking about it.

I do not smile when I think about the guy who, at the party after prom, thought I was passed out and attempted to put his junk in my mouth while whispering, "shhh... you are dreaming... don't wake up".  Seriously.  I should have reported it to the police.

  • My junior prom was my first "date" with DH. We had mutual friends so we'd hung out before, but that was the first time we'd spent anytime just the two of us. Aw...I'm going to have to dig up those pictures now... However, I don't remember much about the actual prom...oh, except this one girl brought her 30 something year old boyfriend...creepy!
  • Junior prom with DH Smile Both proms were rather uneventful. Just like any other school dance. I wish I had a picture from Senior Prom!

  • I loved Prom! I went with my boyfriend, and we just had the best time. I had this big pink ballgown, and I had an updo with pink flowers in it.

Eighteen of us went together in this big limo bus, we went to the after prom deal at the school and then we drove to a friend's lakehouse and hung out more.

Best night of high school for sure!

I just went to my high school boyfriend's wedding back in January! We are still friends. Smile

  • My prom date was just a guy friend of mine--my HS BF went to another school, and his prom was the same night, so he went to his with a friend.  We double-dated with a friend of mine and a friend of his, and it was pretty average overall.

There were two parts of the evening that stand out:  when a big group of us all met at a bowling alley after prom to go bowling in our prom attire (oh, we were so wacky!) and the after party a friend of mine hosted at her house.  The same group (boys & girls) all went to her house, changed clothes, and played board games all night.  My friend's dad made us a big breakfast, and then we all went home.  Hello, nerdfest!  Geeked

  • I didn't have a date!  Crying

My good guy pal (who I had a huge crush on) didn't want to go.  So me and my BFF went stag in a big group of friends (two limos full).  The guy friend ended up coming to the prom (stag also, but with a different group of friends).  I guess he just didn't want to go with a date but couldn't figure out how to tell me.  But I had the BEST time anyway.  Went to dinner at Gilligan's (which is now called something else).  Danced with a lot of different people.  My prom pic was with my three best friends from band.  I still got a corsage (another friend made me one).  And I looked awesome.  Oh, and Diane Sawyer happened to be staying in the same hotel b/c she was filming something for GMA so she filmed a segment of our prom since she never went to hers!  I still have the segment on tape... Diane Sawyer booty dancing with some senior guys is hilarious!  I have a pic with her too... her eyes are red, looks like someone was knocking back the martinis in the hotel bar!  Ended the night dancing with my friend/crush.  I got over him after that.  Still couldn't believe he wouldn't go to prom with me as friends.  He apologized about 6 years later.  Afterwards, our group went to a friends house and hung out.

  • Mine kind of sucked. Things with my boyfriend weren't too good because I was just biding time until I left for college and he was a little more committed. I was all about spending my last days with my friends and I practically ignored my bf all night. It really hurt his feelings and was kind of an ass thing to do.

My junior prom was great, though. That's the one that I have the best memories of. Went with friends. Danced with lots of people. Ended the night slow dancing with a long time crush. That's the prom I wanna remember.

  • I went to a Phish concert in lieu of prom. It was awesome.

  • Let's see...

I went to my junior prom with a good guy friend, and we had soooo much fun!  A group of us got a limo and went to dinner at a restaurant in an historic town near here (I grew up here in DC).  Then we went to prom and had fun then we all went back to my house for an afterparty and my parents cooked us breakfast.  We got the good china and the silver and crystal and everything.  Here's the junior prom pic.  So. Much. Hair!

My senior year, I'd started dating this one guy (we'll call him Mr. Not Quite Right) and just kept dating him because I couldn't figure out how to break up with him.  This went on for three months or so.  When I finally did break up with him he didn't take it well.  He stalked my house after school, and one day during English class he made this really nasty snide remark to me during a class activity.  I was always pretty quiet in HS except in my close circle of friends -- I certainly wasn't the social butterfly type who got lots of attention in the halls between classes and stuff.  But word of that remark he made in class got around my very large high school and suddenly people were stopping me right and left in the halls to give me a hug and tell me they were on my side.  It was weird.  I was suddenly popular.  I thought people didn't know my name; it turned out that people did and they liked me.  Then on top of that, the very next week the guy on whom I'd had a *huge* crush ever since my freshman year asked me to prom!  I still get butterflies in my tummy when I think about it.  My parents knew what a big deal this was, and they took me to Lord & Taylor to find the perfect dress.  That year at prom, I had the best dress, the best hair, and, I'm pretty sure, the best time.  :)  I have a picture of me in that dress on that guy's arm around here somewhere.  I'll try to dig it up tonight after the boys are in bed and I'll add it to this post.

  • I went with a guy that I was kind of dating. I didn't take it all that seriously until one of my good friends got a bee in her bonnet that it was supposed to be the greatest night of our lives about a week beforehand. She arranged for us to get our makeup done and I wore a hot pink dress that had a kind of poofy bottom (it was short). My makeup looked horrible - the foundation was way too dark for me and the "cat's eye" liquid liner the woman used made me look like a heroin addict. I ended up washing most of it off (except the cat's eye liner... don't ask my why; this was the mid-90s). I remember that we had a fun time because our friend had a hip flask and we were all taking illicit swigs from it (my friend's date was driving and was not drinking, so that was at least a little responsible). We went to an afterparty at someone's house, but it was boring, so I had someone take me home. In short, my prom was not that memorable.

  • Mine was AWFUL!

The group I went with was late, so we were late for our dinner reservation which meant they deleted it.  We waited there for an hour before giving up and going to eat at IHOP.. not exactly my idea of Prom dinner.  And we showed up late to prom as a result of this.

A couple of months before prom my boyfriend of 4 years broke up with me and a week later started dating a new girl.  Right before prom we reconciled as friends and he would write me letters.  When his girlfriend found out she broke up with him and wouldn't go to prom with him so then he stopped talking to me.  Drama much???  So seeing him at prom was way awkward and I felt like his GF glared at me the whole time.

On top of that I went with a popular football player that graduated already and all he wanted to do was run around and talk to everyone at Prom that he hadn't seen since he graduated.  I think he danced with me maybe twice and I saw him long enough to take pictures.

The after party we went to ended up having kids in grades lower than me there that didn't even go to prom and people were smoking marijuana.  To each their own... but it's illegal and not my thing and they were trying to pressure me into smoking it.  Thankfully my lame prom date stood up for me and told them to back off.

And lastly, the next morning when I woke up, I went to leave and it was raining and the kids yard was muddy.  I was in my grandpa's brand new F350 pick up truck and thought I would go around this car in the grass.  Yea.. sunk that beast of a truck in the mud.  One of the kids went to pull me out and did so but not before spinning the wheels in the truck and kicking up rocks that busted out the back glass......  Thankfully my grandpa loved me and wasn't mad.  :-(

  • OH and DH would like to add that for his prom his junior year, his date was so short he put her up in a chair to dance with her (he's 6'5") and then that night she went home with another guy that night which crushed him.  And I should note that his junior prom date is actually one of our best friends and was in our wedding :-)

  • I went with a guy that ran in the same 'group' of people.  We had "hung out" a few times before prom (just the two of us) but there was no dating/feelings involved.  We both just wanted to go - and wanted to be with our friends, so he asked me.

We all got a limo and went out to eat together before prom.  I had an *awesome* dress.  Jessica McClintock (sp?) that I loved.  I was in a strange point of my life at that time and was just starting to 'play' with an eating disorder.  I was a size 0 - and looking back on the pictures I look like I was 12.

After prom, we changed clothes and went bowling - then to an after party where there was drinking, but I didn't partake.  (not my HS style).  I ended up falling asleep on the couch with this other guy (he happen to fall asleep too, next to me on the couch) and when I woke up I realized my prom date got pissed and he asked if we had "slept together for real" (sex) Confused.  I got annoyed with the whole thing and he took me home.

It was a fun night, and I have great pictures.  I need to get them scanned!
