Moving with a POD or similar thing?

Has anyone ever done this or have experience in this area? We are thinking this might be a good option for us. we are planning on heading back to MI this summer but not sure where we are going yet.

For the summer to save money and stuff we plan on staying at like 4 peoples houses so we need a place to keep our stuff... we have looked into the u-haul and storage unit option but i thought about the PODS. I have to call for a quote so im not sure on the pricing yet if it is too expensive. just wanted to know if anyone has had experience with them. thanks!!

Re: Moving with a POD or similar thing?

  • We used a POD for our move simply because it was cheaper than a u-haul for us.  It was at our house for about 5-6 days before the move so we could slowly pack it up, and then it went to the storage facility for the weekend and was dropped at the new house the following monday.  We took about 3 days to unpack it.  The cost for us was pretty reasonable--but our move was only about 40 miles.

It was really convenient for packing and unpacking,so I think we would've paid more to have it!!

  • we were in a similar situation as you - we sold our townhouse and had 2 months before our new house was ready. one of my best friends offered for us to live with them, so we packed up our stuff in a Pack Rat (the same thing as a POD) and they stored it in their warehouse until we were ready to move into the new house.  It was very convenient for packing/unpacking.  we had 2 breakable items (a footed platter and a peice of crystal) break but i might not have wrapped/packed them good enough, who knows.

    good luck with your move!

  • we used a POD to move from OH to NC. We were happy with it. We loaded it up over a few days and also unpacked it over a few days.
