I took a long brake from highlighting my hair and I think I'm ready to start up again. I need to keep it on the cheap though. Any recommendations? Preferably in North/Central Austin.

Re: Affordable highlights?
How cheap do you need it to be? I go to Zig Zag Salon (Melody Dominguez), and while they are VERY reasonable, I wouldn't call them cheap-cheap. I think you can get a partial highlight for about $50 maybe. I've paid upwards of $100 for partial and $200 full at other salons. I am of the opinion that you get what you pay for when it comes to hair.
As far as REALLY cheap, Baldwin Beauty School students take clients on certain days (not sure which ones). That's about as cheap as it comes. Also check out Avenue 5 Institute. When I was shopping for a beauty school, these guys really impressed me. Looks like partial highlights are $40+.
Toni and guy usually takes models once a week, too. Check out craigslist, stylists usually have an ad.
JR salon is another salon that does take models, very good yelp reviews.
I get my highlights done at the Paul Mitchell school in Pflugerville right off 35. I had all over highlights for med length hair for $35 plus another 8 for shampoo and cut. It takes about 30 minutes longer than it would in a regular salon because they are teaching but I'll take that for the savings.
