Active Board

Is this an active board?  I'm thinking about relocating  from CT to the greater Boston area....

 Pros/Cons?

Can I join in the conversation over here?

Oh and hi, I'm Mona, and I've been married for almost 5 years and live in CT with my two adorable doggies.

Re: Active Board

  • Hi and welcome! My DH is from CT. The board isn't super active, but they are quite a few girls here now. Please feel free to join in and get things moving! Smile

P.S. Your puppy is super cute!

  • Welcome, definitely join in the posting!  Things are a bit slower on this board, but its a great group of nesties, and has picked up considerably, recently.

As far as pros/cons of Boston... Its definitely great being near the city and have different things to do and restaurants to try.  The biggest con for us is the COL, but we're originally from the Midwest so I guess that should be taken with a grain of salt.

Would you be relocating for a job?

  • Hi and welcome! Your dog is adorable!
  • Welcome to the board!  Feel free to jump right in.  We can be super helpful if you have questions.

Pros: Lots of great restaurants, lots of different types of neighborhoods, good theater scene

Cons: Most will say it's a HCOL area, but I moved here from the Bay Area so it's all relative.  It's not cheap, but it's not as bad as a lot of people think IMHO.

I'm sure there's more to say for both buckets but I can't think of 'em right now.  Just ask any questions you're curious about and we'll try to help.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • We would be relocating once we both find jobs in that area.  We live in CT and find ourselves in Boston all the time and while the cost of living is a bit higher, we are willing to sacrifice to have the type of life we enjoy.

I know so many people who either plan to move after their kids graduate, or when they retire, and I want to enjoy life now...in my 30s (eek!..saying that makes me feel old) and don't want to wish I didn't make a change that I wanted to make early on.

I initially moved to New England with the intentions of moving to the greater Boston area and I'm drawn to many aspects including the social aspects.  I also like being able to use public transportation, walking, and so on....there's not so much of that here...we don't even have sidewalks.

I currently live in a rural suburb in a house (my neighbor has chickens..and a rooster...and a beagle to watch them all..) and I'll happily give that up as long as I can find the right opportunity.

I know the CT board has a private board and I know the Boston one does as well but I hope we can get this board moving.  Thanks for the friendly welcome!

  • Welcome!!  Your dog is adorable.  It sounds like you know what you want, and that Boston will work well for you.  Good luck with the move, should you choose to do so!
  • We've just moved out of Boston after 10 years. It's a nice place to live- it had it's pros and cons, just like everywhere else. I don't do suburbs so I can only help you with the downtown areas. I love Charlestown and the South End. Somerville has totally up and come since I worked there years ago- so I give that a thumbs up although it's not part of the city- it's metro enough to consider, IMO.

Cambridge has some nice parts but I wouldn't live there- it's too removed for me.

    GL!

  • I grrew up in CT but I've lived in Boston for the last 13 yrs.  There are things about CT that I miss but I really like it here.  Welcome!
