Not a great start to a monday
So Pauls mom called him at 6 this morning saying that there was a message on their home machine saying that his account had been hacked into! They wiped out his checking and his saving was set up as overdraft protection and wiped that out too!
Anyone have any experience with this or know the laws about it?
Re: Not a great start to a monday
he is at the bank now filing a police report. He did look at the bank online and there were a bunch of charges in Chino Hills, CA...wherever the hell that is!!
I had this happen to me once. I filed a police report and got all my money back. It took some time, but they did refund everything.
Sorry he has to go through this...it's a real pain.
Chino Hills is right by where I work. I swear it wasn't me!!
Like everyone else has said, the bank will give him the money back. It's just a lot of paperwork but be patient and it'll all work out.
It's so creepy when these things happen.

This exatly. A bank would never call and leave a message like that. They would call and say this is Loss Prevention or something of that sorts, please call us at ..... That might be a hoax...
I take what I said back. I would be peeved at the bank for putting that kind of message on a home message machine. That's kind of private and I think they should have left a message to just call them back. Also, sorry for Paul. That sucks.
This happened to lots of people in a town about 45 minutes north of us. Scary stuff! Glad everything is working out!

That sucks -my boss lives in Chino!!! This happened to Eric last week. Well a couple charges from Home Depot in VA happened, and they knew it wasn't us. We called and got a new card. We got the money refunded, and interest added from the transaction. The banks are really good about returning the monies back but you gotta doublecheck and look everything over.
