Before I decide she's The Omen...

Do other little babies do this?

So, your holding a darling, smiling infant on your lap and she reaches up for your face and gently touches your skin... Super sweet, right?

Then she grabs at your face, digs her nails in and pulls!  WTH?  Sometimes she just claws at you.  It's weird because she's clearly doing it on purpose.  Testing boundaries, I guess.  So it's gotten to the point where we're pulling her hand away and firmly saying No!  And then she laughs in our face!

It's a little "Chucky."

WDYT?

Re: Before I decide she's The Omen...

  • Hunter does.  I say the same thing I say to the dogs:  "Mama OUCH!"

Its more effective with the dogs.

  • Sadie hasn't gotten to that stage, but she sure likes to be feeding and pulls her head back while she's latched on and push on my booby with her hand...I seriously think she is trying to rip my nips off!!

can't wait for the clawing...SOUNDS SOOOOO FUN!!!

  • Lil does the same thing when she's tired and about to fall asleep. I just move over a little bit, just out of her reach. Though, I don't think ignoring the behavior is the right approach. It would probably be more appropriate to do what Rachel said, an over exaggerated, "Oww! That hurts Mommy" type of thing.

  • Bebe is super naughty right now like that.  She will grab the skin on my neck and twist, then laugh and do it again when I stop her and say "No."  From what I understand this is totally normal, but it is a bit of a freak-out when I realize my daughter is laughing at my pain.  Ugh.

Same for Scarlett...when she's fighting sleep.  I wonder what about being tired makes her think Put me to sleep, woman! D@mn you! Take this!

  • We're not there yet, but I plan to do what my family does: fake cry. It works better for babies cause that's what they do.

    HTH

  • I have a nice scratch on my face from Myka clawing at my nose and mouth.  She will grab my lip and pull.  If she doesn it while falling asleep I just move her hand and hold on to it.  If she does it during play I say ?UCH No that hurts. Then I redirect play.  I think she is still too young to fully understand she is hurting me.
