I'm working on my pots this weekend (I have about 6 large pots and 6 hanging baskets) and trying to add some more variety. Any suggestions for good flowers/plants to use?
Last year I used a mix of coleus, dusty miller, and spike grass for some height, geraniums and pinks around them and petunias, sweet potato vines and asparagus fern trailing over the edges.
Re: Container Gardening
I'm just learning plants myself, but I can't wait to put these in hanging baskets. It's called fuschia, and it has hot pink bulbs that burst open into purple hanging flowers.
Here's a better pic:

That's good news for me. Our backyard is so shaded, I'm having to reconsider some plants.
What did you end up picking out? There was a post this weekend on the gardening board about planters also.

I had to look those up, but those are great suggestions. The flower beds in the backyard of our new house are surprising empty; I guess she put in annuals every year. I'm planning on filling them up with some good perennials.
I have a cast iron plant in the front yard in the shade, and it is fabulous. I'm going to divide it and replant some of it in the shaded areas in the backyard too.
