Moved to mason.
Thoughts on places to eat, things to do? Tips? We are close to Tylersville and probably closer to West Chester than most of Mason, but still Mason!
Anyone go to the Mason pool? I'm thinking I'd like to go, but not if it's kid city--as in, parents don't watch their kids and it's like cheap daycare. Is there good space to relax and lay out?
Re: What to do in Mason?
Have you taken your dogs to Wiggly Field yet? It's the dog run at Voice of America park.
Have you been to The Cone yet? Go west on Tylersville until you see a building shaped like an ice cream cone. Delish.
My favorite Mexican restaurant is near you: El Caporal. It's on Tylersville across from the 700 WLW tower (which is hard to miss).
We belong to Lifetime Fitness which is off Mason-Montgomery Road in Mason. They have indoor and outdoor pools and overall it's a great facility. It's probably a little kid-centric to be honest. We have my 9 year old stepson part-time but we enjoy the pool even when he's not with us so I wouldn't say their pools are overcome with kids. (but it is very family friendly)
We live in Maineville (on the other side of Kings Island from Mason) and spend most of our time in the Mason/West Chester area. If you want more suggestions, let me know.
BD's Mongolian barbeque is really good. You create your own bowl of food by visiting different 'stations' one for meat, one for veggies, etc and one for sauces and spices, then you give it to the cooks who'll prepare it around a large grill where you watch them cook it. You can either get 1 bowl, or unlimited. It's really fun for any age.

Sichuan Bistro - On Mason-Montgomery near Socialville-Foster (near UDF). Authentic Sichuan-style Chinese and omg so spicy! my faves are the spicy red pepper chicken, spicy sizzling beef, and boiled fish.
Arloi Dee - Thai restaurant on Socialville-Foster (also by UDF). My fave here is the red chicken curry but I also like the drunken crazy noodles and pad thai.
Kyoto - Japanese restaurant on Montgomery Rd near Fields Ertel. The regular and some other rolls (forget the exact category terminology but just ask your server) are 1/2 price all the time. My faves are the spicy tuna roll, spicy shrimp roll, crazy crab roll, and shrimp tempura roll.
Abuelos - In Deerfield Towne Center. Really yummy Mexican food. Everything there is good.
Mimi's Cafe - It's a chain also in Deerfield Towne Center but I really like their breakfast best. The omlettes (made with egg whites only) and muffins are my fave. If it's your first time there, tell your server and they give you a carryout box of 4 GIANT muffins to take home for free.
Taz - Located near the Fields Ertle exit (behind McDonald's). Lebanese food. I like their gyros and french fries but can only go for lunch w/ co-workers b/c DH doesn't like this type of food.
New Krishna - Not in Mason but also not that far. It's in Sharonville on Sharon Rd by a Skyline. Best indian buffet in the city, hands down.
Five Guys - On Tylersville near Tylersville exit. Yes it's a chain but whoa that's one deliciously awesome burger!
Colors Cafe - Located on Tylersville near Snider. We went here b/c of a BOGO coupon from our entertainment book. Their burgers weren't bad and I liked that they were served on a pretzel bun.
Things to do: King's Island, The Beach, movies (we like Regal), cooking classes at The Learning Kitchen in West Chester, scrapbooking at Archivers in Deerfield Towne Center, shopping at Deerfield, go to Sharon Woods park, Jazzercise
- come try a free class, you'll be hooked haha!
I don't know much about the community pool. I looked into it briefly but decided it was too expensive.
Latest Blog Update: Peanut Butter Cookie with Salted Peanut Caramel
There's a cute (but pricy) Italian restaurant in Mason called Petrelli's (sp?). Mr. Petrelli used to teach at St. Susanna with his wife and finally retired from teaching to open an Italian restaurant. I've never been but my parents have and said that it's pretty good.
I also second The Cone. My MIL lives like 5 houses up from it so when we first were in Cincy and lived with her we frequented it quite alot haha.
For movies I'd definitely would hit up The Rave on Union Center. The Streets of Union Center is also a lot of fun to walk around. You're also closer to the outlet malls in Monroe.
There's a great walking trail that goes along 129 up in West Chester. We've taken Koda up there for a walk and we really like it, I've never been to the VOA dog park so I don't have any advice on that.
DH and I are in Liberty Twp, so welcome to our neck of the woods (well somewhat, haha).
I have a feeling you might be in my neighborhood (or at least really stinking close to it.) We are in Mason near Tylersville pretty close to VOA.
A lot of this will be repeats from others's suggestions:
Chinese = Twin Dragon in the Big Lots shopping center on Tylersville at Cox
Five Guys on Tylersville
Pitrelli's is a great date night place.
Mexican = El Corporal on Tylersville or Cazadores on Rt. 42. Both are great.
Pizza = Aponte's on 42 or Fratelli's on Cin-Day Rd. We also like Marco's on Tylersville a lot.
Colors Cafe on Tylersville has ice cream, sandwiches (pretzel sandwiches).
Walking Trails = Pine Hill Lakes park on Kings Mills, Hosea Woods on Mason rd., VOA
There is a slew of restaurants and shopping at Deerfield.
DH and I like City BBQ at VOA shopping center as well.
As far as the pool, I haven't gone to the outdoor one since we moved here but I have gone to the indoor one at Mason Community Center. I like it. To me, the community center never feels like it overrun with kids.
Thanks everyone! I'm really excited about the move. We loved Mariemont but I got a job in Oxford and it's just more convenient to be outside of the city.
I'm sooo looking forward to trying all of these restaurants! You all gave such great ideas.
My husband saw that VOA has a dog park but we haven't been yet. One of my dogs doesn't have very good dog park manners (jumps on people and they get mad
he's just overly excitable) so I'm not sure we will go there or not, but I am looking forward to all of the new things to do.
And I wanted to add, I don't mind kids around, I have a stepdaughter that I'd like to take the pool with me on the weekends we have her--I just didn't want to go to a pool where it was kid city and parents just dropped them off. Kid-centric is okay-- kid-overrun and no parents in sight is not okay!
Moesten, you've got private message.
