Good Evening Ladies! I know I don't post on here very often, but DH and I have been in the process of moving and we are finally(almost!) all settled into a place out here in Astoria! The apartment is wayyy bigger than we needed, but we loved the space so much that we just couldn't pass it up! 3 bedrooms on the 2nd floor! Awesome! The problem with all the space is we need more furniture. So far the only room we have completely furnished to my liking is the living room...for now.
Today I was lucky enough to find the cutest little antique vanity and bench! I have been looking for one for years! I found this little trinket on a craiglist posting for $100...more than I wanted to pay, but she was willing to drive it to my apartment, with me in tow, since I don't have a car.
My mother has an antique vanity and bench(that is still way cuter than the one I found) that I have been envious of for years. She got it at a garage sale when she was in high school for $5! Fixed it up, loved it so much she had it shipped all the way from her hometown in IN to FL, where she spent most of her adult life. My sister and I shared that vanity all of our childhood and then as soon as we were mature enough to appreciate it, my mother whisked it back to her bedroom for her own vane adornment.
I still hope to inherit this priceless little piece at some point in my life, since I am the eldest daughter.
Anyways what I am writing you all about is whether I should completely refurnish it and re-stain it, or leave it as it is? To fix or not to fix? It has some minor scratches...but mostly just wear and tear. Some of the scrolling on the legs has cracked off...but its not really noticeable if I were to just stain a few spots on the legs. Let me see if I can get a picture of this on here....sorry if it doesn't work! Let me know what you think though.
Re: Great Find!

I know nothing about antique furniture, but I do know that whenever I watch Antiques Roadshow, there is always someone where with a piece of furniture that is super old, and the appraiser says "Well, with the original finish, it would be worth $50,000....but since you refinished it, it's only worth $10,000! Sorry!"
Not saying your piece will ever be worth anything, but if you think it might....don't do it! :-)
