Gadzooks! anyone else have a story?

I was awaken at 630AM to a medley of fire and police sirens, and my cats going crazy, because somehow my neighbors car caught on fire!  It was crazy how many people responded, i don't think there was any other damage done, but it sure freaked me out when i opened my eyes to see an eerie orange glow in my bedroom (i can see their driveway from my window).

has anyone else been woken up by something crazy or does anyone else have any stories to share?

hope everyones having a good day!

  • We live in a historic district (aka, ghetto) so we hear sirens all the time.  We have a fire station a few blocks away so it can get very loud at night.  I sleep through it but DH still wakes up.  We also have Air Force jets flying over (we must be in the flight path for the base) and they are LOUD!  Oh, and once the people renting the house next to us woke me up b/c they were having "fun" on the porch at 2 am.  Yeah, that was a hoot!

  • My golden retriever (RIP) used to think he was "in tune" with police and fire sirens. I'd learned to live with sleeping through sirens unless they were in right outside my window, but lemme tell ya - nothing gets you out of bed faster than the first time you hear your dog howling at the TOP of his lungs in the wee hours of the morning. I thought he was hurt and dying - and come to find out he was singing.

The startling comedy of this was only surpassed by the first time my BF (now H) experienced it and was all 'WTH is that?' in the middle of the night. The man can sleep through anything - but the dog howling.

After the GR passed on, we'd sort of forgotten about that eccentricity as our current dog didn't do that - then we got the Germ Shep mix - and some time after she turned two, she decided to find her voice doing the exact same thing. Scared the crap out of both of us - again.

  • We once got woken up by a 30 ft. geyzer from a water main break that was hitting our house. H was already out of bed. When I got up I was like, that is one hell of a storm. I thought he was going to cry. We were trapped in the house until they turned the water off. Water was coming in everywhere. It wasn't until we figured out it did over 20K in damage that I wanted to cry.
