Ugh...things like this really make me hate Louisiana

#1 http://www.wbrz.com/news/committee-votes-down-gay-adoption-bill/

MikeSteeleWBRZ Committee now considering 2nd bill that would block gay parents from both being listed on a birth certificate

Seriously, WTF?

Re: Ugh...things like this really make me hate Louisiana

  • This just burns my biscuits! Angry

I'm with you Joeys - this is exactly the kind of thing that I hate about Louisiana. I'm so glad that my gay BFF is moving to a state where he and his partner will actually have some of the same rights that we all enjoy now. I'll miss them but I can't imagine living somewhere that I was treated as a second class citizen because of my sexual preferences!

  • rediculous.

so, they would rather have foster children or wards of the state be shuffled around to new homes every few months than have them adopted into loving, stable homes with two men or two women?

    sickening.

Great point AIDT! It really is punishing these kids too!

    Exactly!! It's so sad...Louisiana just doesn't get it. :(

  • I love you all right now, just wanted to let you know that. I do think that in LA is currently not legal for a homosexual couple to adopt together. I remember looking into a few years ago, so I don't think this is new.

Yes, that's the current law, but that bill would have made it legal. That's what upsets me.

So is the current law illegal?

This is what I just don't get. Discrimination is a huge no-no, except against gay people. So, why is it ok to pick on them?

    An excellent point, AIDT!

  • stupid stupid stupid
  • I'm really late to the party, I don't know how I missed this earlier!

But yeah, Louisiana can be embarrassing sometimes!

  • I saw this on the news this morning and thought the same thing... are they serious?! One of the reasons is because the children would be exposed to an "immoral" environment. I'm both appalled ad embarrassed.

I think it's a generational thing. If most of the legislators were in their 20s/early 30s... that wouldn't have happened, IMO. Those old bigots!

People are just afraid, it's almost as if the church scandel is less of an issue than gay adoption.

  • As a liberal hippie from Massachusetts with a lesbian sister who is getting married next month this post makes me smile :)

I tend to think that everyone down here thinks the way the law does (bad assuming on my part!) and it's surprising and very neat to see so many nesties that support gay marriage/adoption.

  • I had to listen to my IL's go on about gays and how they shouldn't marry.  I wanted to let them in on the fact that my cousin's a lesbian. And because of people who think like they do, she can't get married in the state in which she lives.  We don't all think the same way as the law states. And thank goodness for that.
