graduation gift ideas?

i have a great friend who is graduating from Stanford Law soon. We've been friends since we were 5 years old although we've lived in different states since around age 8 or 9.

i'm drawing blanks on what to get her. she has a job lined up post graduation (although their start date has been deferred until January) so she may be doing some travelling between graduation and starting work. because of the job limbo situation she doesn't know yet if she's going to be moving back home or will be able to move where her BF is... so something like a spa GC is out since I have no idea where she'll be!

Any ideas??

Re: graduation gift ideas?

  • ETA: I also have two cousins graduating from A&M in two weeks. One is going on to med school and the other is going to Vanderbilt for grad school. Any ideas for those??

I hate graduation gifts! I never know what to get!

  • Ugh, that reminds me that my cousin is graduating from SMU soon.  I didn't get any of my other cousins gifts when they graduated from HS or college... but we got an invitation to this one so I probably should, huh?

For your friend graduating from Stanford Law - I think a spa GC will be ok... but maybe get one for a nice chain, like Elizabeth Arden Red Door spas or Bliss.  It sounds like a great idea actually because I know how stressed first-year lawyers can be.  Or a Starbucks GC for those late nights working?  Not sure if that's too lame for a good friend...

  • How about a leather portfolio for your Stanford Law friend?  I don't know if it's specific to my industry (so I don't know if your friend would find it useful), but nearly everyone I work with uses their leather portfolio all the time.  I take mine to meetings, I stuff papers into it at the end of the day to straighten up my desk, etc.  I've had it for like 8 years; seriously, it's invaluable!
  • ETA: The one I have is like a notebook, sortof similar to this:

  • Ditto the portfolio for the law school grad.

Med school - enbroidered lab coat.  (They wont be able to wear it at class, but it would be something cool.)  You could also add a patch of the school's insignia on it.

Grad school -  Money toward books and supplies at the school's bookstore.

And go 'stangs!  Im an SMU alum Big Smile

  • My husband and dad are attorneys and love their padfolios. My husband even gave them as groom's gifts because he loves his so much! I would think that might also be helpful for the med student.
  • Another idea for the law grad is Stanford desk accessories. I have a UT letter opener, business card holder, and card holder for my purse. Still need the pencil holder and a couple other things. :)  My favorite graduation gift, though, was my own little Lady Justice statue. LOVE IT.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.
