Chuck Hagel's wife endorsing Obama

At a 10 a.m. news conference today, per msnbc.com. Susan Eisenhower (Ike's daughter) will be joining her. Sen. Hagel has yet to endorse anyone, and she says she doesn't know if he will. Very interesting. I wonder what made her choose now to endorse.

Re: Chuck Hagel's wife endorsing Obama

  • Given that Sen. Hagel was on a trade delegation to South America during the RNC, despite the fact that John McCain used to be one of his closest friends in the Senate this does not surprise me in the least.

Hagel is a very moderate R, and has really been turned off by the direction the McCain campaign has taken. There is speculation he'd be up for a cabinet spot in an Obama administration.

"We tend to be patronizing about the poor in a very specific sense, which is that we tend to think,
  • Lieberman is more of a republican than Hagel. I wouldn't be surprised if he jumps the aisle in the next term.
  • Caden, Hagel is retiring from the Senate at the end of this term.
"We tend to be patronizing about the poor in a very specific sense, which is that we tend to think,
  • Alrighty then!

No wonder he doesn't give a crap!

  • No disrespect to Mrs. Hagel, but why should anyone care who the spouse of a retiring senator is going to vote for? Unless there is something more to Mrs. Hagel that I am missing?

And Caden, clearly Hagel gives a crap which is why he can't endorse the McCain/Palin ticket!

  • That was: he doesn't give a crap... about his party and what his lack of support for it will do for his career.
  • With all due respect to Mrs. Hagel, why does anyone care who she is endorsing?

  • Unless Hagel himself does the endorsing, I don't see it getting much play.  Spouses disagree all the time.  But if he actually goes and does it (hmmm, the week before the election?), that would be significant.  It doesn't matter that he's very moderate, the low-info swing voters will see "Veteran Republican endorses Obama."

In fact I passed one house the other day with McCain and Obama signs in the yard.  Obama's had a "HERS" sign taped to it and the McCain one had a "HIS."

That is awesome! My parents should do this.

    That's pretty funny.

Did anyone else see that gal on E 08 who said she is adamant that as a couple she and her husband vote the same way, because the notion of cancelling each other out bothers her?  So they get together and hash out any differences and agree on their slate of candidates.  I'm not sure what to think of that.  It strikes me as odd.
