Re: ?Mamas & Mamas to Be: Weekly Check-in?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  I am 21 weeks tomorrow or Fri...I never can remember which ticker is right!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling good, but still haven't felt any fetal movement yet...which has me completely paranoid!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  Luckily my next regularly scheduled checkup & u/s is tomorrow so I get confirmation that baby is okay & just me being paranoid.  It is also the 5 month u/s where we could find out sex of the baby, but planning on sticking with Team Green!

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? Due to my paranoia, I found out that lots of pg ladies don't feel movement until 22 weeks and beyond...sometimes that is b/c of an anterior placenta, which only means the placenta is on the back of the uterus instead of the front.  No harm in this just means you may not feel movement early on.

    (5) How long have you been TTC or how long did it take you to get PG?  approx 6 months.  I was on BC for a decade before we started trying so I think it took my body awhile to really get off of the Pill & then one month we stopped trying b/c I had to make sure my disability insurance went into affect before I was pg.

    (6) What's your favorite PG or BR thing these days? Bonus for a PIP or link.  Sweet Tea!!!  I have stayed away from drinking sugar since high school so having tea with real sugar is just freaking delicious!  (I know that is ridiculous!)

    (7) Spanking?  Yay or Nay. Why?  Overall nay...if it is a safety thing like grabbing them before they run into the street, then a tap on the butt is okay.  But spanking as a form of punishment for not cleaning up their room or something, is just not for me.

    (8) Any summer travel plans?  If you're PG how far along will you be?  If you have a baby how will you pack and plan on your trip with baby?  Florida Keys!! and a few days in Miami!  I will be about 6 months pg & eagarly searching for the best Key Lime Pie I can find!

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

Libby is three months and two days old

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Feeling good...almost back to work fulltime (as of May 5) so I am enjoying these last days of maternity leave.  I need to start exercising regularly so I keep dropping weight but I am uncertain how to go about it without affecting my supply.  I also need to find a sports bra to contain my ridiculously large bewbies (they were big pre-PG and now they're just obscene!)

Libby STTN a few nights ago and scared me half to death.  As usual, J put her in her co-sleeper at 11 p.m. and she normally stirs around 2:30/3 for a little snack but she didn't and I awoke at 6 a.m. and she was still asleep in her little bed exactly as J had left her (she hadn't moved!).  I reached over to her and her arms were STONE cold.  I panicked a little bit inside and pulled her into bed with me.  She let out a little sigh and latched right on.  Whew.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

Babies are fast learners!  We can show Libby how to do something a few times and then she does it on her own.  So fun!

    (5) How long have you been TTC or how long did it take you to get PG?

2 cycles...I hope #2 is just as easy.

    (6) What's your favorite PG or BR thing these days? Bonus for a PIP or link.

    Libby loves this toy:

    image

Summer Infant 3 Stage Super Seat, Green

The other day she was in it for 60 minutes having a ball!

    (7) Spanking?  Yay or Nay. Why?

Nay for us.  I might tap her hand if she were reaching for a pot handle on the stove or something but that's it.  I believe in distraction and redirection, especially when they're under 5.  And I don't feel that spanking is an effective way to teach discipline. It instills fear, resentment and anger and studies have shown that it leads to more agressive behavior in children.

    (8) Any summer travel plans?  If you're PG how far along will you be?  If you have a baby how will you pack and plan on your trip with baby?

We'll be flying out to CA in late August to visit family.  She'll be 7 months old so hopefully she'll be fine on the flights.  We're arriving in SoCal for a wedding and then renting a car and driving up to NorCal.

TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

Mamas: They say it "takes a village" to raise a child (or children)...who's in your "village" and do they all see eye-to-eye with your approach to raising your LO?

Our village is small...mainly me, J and my mom.  Thankfully my mother is very respectful of our parenting choices even if she might not agree with them (she swears disposable diapers are better than cloth, but whatev) and even though she lives with us she doesn't rush in and try to take things over, which I appreciate.  I am sure its frustrating for her sometimes to hear/see our learning curve.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? Jack is almost 10 weeks old.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?not really.  I think we really hit a stride in regards to BFing.  Not sure when it happened, but he is great with my fast let down lately, I don't feel any discomfort, he moves back and forth from bottle to boob, and he has figured out how much he needs in order to sleep through the night - he feeds more during the early evening and in the morning.  I guess he's like his mom and dad - he loves his sleep  :)

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? nothing coming up.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? I think I already knew this, but was able to take advantage this week - diapers.com price matches.  Both my mom and I ordered new car seats and wanted to use diapers.com b/c of their fast shipping.  One phone call later and they credited our accounts in order to make them the same price as albeebaby

    (5) How long have you been TTC or how long did it take you to get PG? got pregnant on first O, but it took over 1 year of closely monitoring/no BC to O.  About 6 months after starting naturopathic treatment.

    (6) What's your favorite PG or BR thing these days? Bonus for a PIP or link. Jack loves his activity gyms (the things that dangle the toys above him) in the past week he has really started to reach for things.

    upstairs:

    downstairs:

    (7) Spanking?  Yay or Nay. Why? nope. will use other ways to discipline.

    (8) Any summer travel plans?  If you're PG how far along will you be?  If you have a baby how will you pack and plan on your trip with baby?  going to take Jack to the midwest to meet the rest of his family, but not until Sept. when flights were cheaper and SIL will have had her 2nd child. they have all the baby stuff we will need. I will probably take cloth diapers - they have 2 w/d at their house. but I also bought the grobaby deal last week for air travel.

Mamas: They say it "takes a village" to raise a child (or children)...who's in your "village" and do they all see eye-to-eye with your approach to raising your LO? my family (mom, sister, grandma mostly) are the only ones that really help with care, house cleaning, running errands.  They are all on the same wavelength or at least respect our decisions.

I did hear that my crazy aunt was really concerned that we didn't choose to circ and said stuff behind our back.  None of her business if you ask me and it's strange that she is so concerned about our sons private parts.

UGH - daycare at my work isn't happening and the next place doesn't have an opening until August.  MIL might be flying out to watch him for who knows how long.  SUPER big help, even if she is sometimes annoying.  So I guess our village reaches to the midwest as well.

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers, link to your chart!

happy earth day :)  Jack can sit in his bebepod for short intervals these days.  he's getting too big too fast :(

  • **butting in**  Is it just me or have the Hawaii nesties being having a lot of boys lately? And there are a lot of boys due in the coming months.... interesting.  Just a random thought...   **butting out**

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    37.5 weeks! Almost there!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Now that I'm on maternity leave, I'm not so tired anymore because I can sleep in when I need to =) So other than the stubborn nausea that still won't go away, I'm feeling pretty good...and excited and anxious about when the baby will really be here and what labor day is going to be like.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

    Usual weekly appt tomorrow.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

Heh, that the hand-me-down crib that we were going to use apparently has paint over the original paint and it started coming off when MH was wiping down the crib, so I think we have to find and buy a new crib now...

    (5) How long have you been TTC or how long did it take you to get PG?

In early August, after a trip to Vegas (I told MH I didn't want to be pg in Vegas =P), we decided that maybe we can start giving TTCing a shot and by the end of that month, we were pregnant.

    (6) What's your favorite PG or BR thing these days? Bonus for a PIP or link.

Hmmm. Good question. I guess I don't really have one right now cuz other than maternity clothes, I didn't buy anything for pg.

    (7) Spanking?  Yay or Nay. Why?

Nay. Other than tapping away their hand when they try to touch the stove or something dangerous, I don't believe that a real spanking will do much except strain the parent-child relationship.

    (8) Any summer travel plans?  If you're PG how far along will you be?  If you have a baby how will you pack and plan on your trip with baby?

    None for now.

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers, link to your chart!

Yeah, it was a lot of girls for a while and now all of the sudden, it's boys all around!

    Sept 2008 Wedding | May 2010 & Mar 2012 Babies
  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?   he is 5 months, almost 3 weeks

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? he's developed this weird thing where he coughs everytime before he sneezes!  Also we started solid foods, beyond the rice cereal.  Seems to like peas the best!  So far, we've tried squash, sweet potatoes, and peas.  Tomorrow is something new!  Someone told me to try the milder flavors first, so that's why we went with the squash and sp's before the peas and other greens.  We're still mixing with rice cereal, although I have given him a few tastes of just the food itself.  FUNNY FACES with the sweet potatoes!! LOL

We also have to start sleep training, but MH wants to wait until his semester is over.  Neither of us are looking forward to it!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  He has a 6 month checkup soon

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?  - not so much baby, and it was before this week, but anyway... one of the common things that can happen after pregnancy is a thyroid condition, so if you're feeling symptoms of depression, it could be your thyroid (especially if you have a family history) - just something to keep in mind.

    (5) How long have you been TTC or how long did it take you to get PG?  Much shorter than I was anticipating - 2 months.

    (6) What's your favorite PG or BR thing these days? Bonus for a PIP or link.  Well, since I seem to be in b/t sizes again, I've been using the belly band from when I was PG under my pants (at the waist) as just sort of a coverup if they don't stay up as far as they are supposed to!    I'm stroller shopping right now, so there may be something new to be excited about soon. :)

    (7) Spanking?  Yay or Nay. Why? undecided yet.  I feel like it should be reserved for extreme situations, but we haven't really discussed it yet.

    (8) Any summer travel plans?  If you're PG how far along will you be?  If you have a baby how will you pack and plan on your trip with baby? not at the moment.  It's so hard to pack everything for him!  I feel like I pack up the entire house.  The last time we went out of town (which was only the second time!), we learned that it's going to take longer, so expect lots more stops.

Mamas: They say it "takes a village" to raise a child (or children)...who's in your "village" and do they all see eye-to-eye with your approach to raising your LO?  that's a good question - I need some villagers.

I have an anterior placenta.  Not only did I feel almost no movement early on, but it also made it difficult to find the heartbeat right away each time I went to the doctor.  But it's not a problem, and now I can feel him all. the. time!

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    27 weeks, 3 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Well, I'm starting 3rd trimester this week, and I'm thinking I can tell!  My feet are starting to swell at the end of each workday, so I head home and put them up ASAP each day.

I also went to a cloth-diapering class this past weekend.  I thought it might clear up some of my confusion and help me find the clear choice for us, but I actually am more confused than ever!  I really want to CD, I just have to make it work with me being a working mom and daycare.  I keep changing my mind about prefolds (with a service), all-in-ones (doing it myself), disposables at daycare/cloth at home, or just scrapping the whole idea and using disposables.  Help!  I have a decision-making issue!!!  Stick out tongue

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

28 week appt. on Monday.  Also, we start our childbirth class at the hospital next week!  We already took a tour of the birthing center at the hospital last week, and it was beautiful.  My favorite part?  They said that the night after giving birth, the hospital serves the new mommy and daddy a celebratory four-course meal served on white linen wheeled into your room on a serving cart!  Awesome!

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

This kiddo must know when I'm getting ready for bed and trying to relax, since that's exactly when he decides it's gymnastics time in mommy's belly!  It's getting harder and harder to fall asleep each night.

    (5) How long have you been TTC or how long did it take you to get PG?

4 cycles, but that was actually 5 months, since one was a weird double-cycle (with soooo many tests taken that month!)  It was also the first cycle that I charted.

    (6) What's your favorite PG or BR thing these days? Bonus for a PIP or link.

Well, I'm working on the nursery little by little, and although it isn't directly BR, I'm completely in love with the the wall decorations I'm working on.  I don't want to post a PIP until it's done (which might be in this weekend, depending on my energy level!).

    (7) Spanking?  Yay or Nay. Why?

I always say "never say never," but I strongly plan not to.  I think there are a ton of other techniques to use first, which are far more effective, anyway.

    (8) Any summer travel plans?  If you're PG how far along will you be?  If you have a baby how will you pack and plan on your trip with baby?

Nope!  None at ALL, for the first time in 12 years!  Unless you count going to my mom's in WI for my family baby shower Memorial Day weekend (which I don't).  This LO is due in July, and that means once school is out June 4th, I'll just be finishing up nesting, putting my feet up, and waiting for him to arrive!  MH will be working lots of hours so he can take off a little bit later in the summer.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

not sure, check my siggy LOL - I know she is 6 months in exactly 2 weeks from today though :)

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

she can sit and tripod really well now. it's really cool to see her tripod, and then pull her trunk up and sit up straight like "look ma, i've got good posture!" LOL

she is continuing to learn to crawl, it's so exciting :) i often put her in the crib on one side and find her later on the other end of it.

she is really good with the baby push ups now and often she arches her back so her feet are up in the air and her head and chest are up...so DH says she looks like a banana :)

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

i have an appt w/the urologist this afternoon to check out that cyst that developed during my pregnancy. fingers crossed it's nothing major and he can just drain it or something.

we set up miss A's 6 month appt for the end of May so that MH can go to this one too

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

that babysteals doesn't always have the best price on things :) it's hard not to impulse buy but if you shop around, sometimes you can get things for a similar price elsewhere or for a few dollars more...worth it so you can pick what you want and when you want it instead of being pressured into getting something! (i.e. this week they had some haba flip books for $14.95 + shipping...some of them are discontinued, including one that babysteals was selling and you could get it for less on amazon)

    (5) How long have you been TTC or how long did it take you to get PG?

it took us about 1 year...i charted from the beginning and used OPKs not too long after starting. after 7 unsuccessful cycles, that's when we went to get help.  i got PG on our 2nd treatment cycle.

    (6) What's your favorite PG or BR thing these days? Bonus for a PIP or link.

I love my angelpack carrier :) the weather is nicer now so i'm able to take miss A out for walks and go shopping since we live w/in walking distance of several shops

    (7) Spanking?  Yay or Nay. Why?

if needed. it won't be a first resort but i think both MH and i agree that sometimes you need to...doesn't have to be super forceful or leave huge red marks on them but sometimes a slap on the wrist maybe.

    (8) Any summer travel plans?  If you're PG how far along will you be?  If you have a baby how will you pack and plan on your trip with baby?

we are going to visit my parents in CA at the end of June. we will either bring her infant seat or buy a cosco scenera (cheapie carseat recommend in baby bargains) and have it shipped to my parents so we don't have to deal w/bringing a car seat every time we visit them. as far as sleeping arrangements go, we will either just have her sleep on the floor on some blankets or we'll get a pack n play for her to sleep in while she is there.  (when she was 6 weeks old and we traveled we used Lori's suggestion that was posted and let her sleep in the suit case LOL with some blankets - someone in the family laughed and said that they used to pull a drawer out from the hotel room and put the baby in the drawer!)

otherwise, since it's my parents we'll bring the cloth diapers and launder them there as usual and i'll bring my pump just in case but i should still be BFing her at that point.  we haven't decided yet if we are going to take a few days to get away just the two of us or if we'll go somewhere w/her.

TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

Mamas: They say it "takes a village" to raise a child (or children)...who's in your "village" and do they all see eye-to-eye with your approach to raising your LO?

it's just me and MH.  we see eye to eye on most things but sometimes he gets outside opinions from work and i don't agree w/them.... but we've talked about it and eventually we come to some kind of consensus

  • Can I just ask why we have the cutest babies on the whole planet on this board??? Stick out tongue And they just keep getting cuter and cuter. The HI board is like a secret cute baby cult! I love it!
  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    11 weeks tomorrow

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Frustrated.  As many of you know, we have major sleep issues.  I have pretty much checked out every sleep book there is and am reading bits and pieces of each of them.  I realize now that she was probably so fussy the first 6 weeks because we weren't putting her down to nap and she was getting overtired.  So now I try to put her down after she's been up for an hour and a half.  I swaddle her and put her in the swing and put on white noise (sometimes) and she'll sleep from 30 min to 2+ hours.  At night, however, she's up every 2-3 hours still.  Gonna try to do a dream feed tonight and see if that helps.

I'm also trying to get away from co-sleeping/bedsharing because she squirms so much that it keeps me up.  Not sure if it would be better to not swaddle her, because it seems she's trying to escape the swaddle.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

3 months in a couple weeks for shots

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

Hmm...that there are TONS of sleep books out there!

    (5) How long have you been TTC or how long did it take you to get PG?

It took us 4 months (3 cycles).

    (6) What's your favorite PG or BR thing these days? Bonus for a PIP or link.

The swing!  And I just got a Bumbo and she seems to love it.

    (7) Spanking?  Yay or Nay. Why?

With the rubbah slippah!  Haha.  J/K.  I will try my best not to resort to spanking.  I hope that I can give her a "look" like some moms that just make their kids behave.  I totally wanna get the Time Out rug that Jon & Kate have.

    (8) Any summer travel plans?  If you're PG how far along will you be?  If you have a baby how will you pack and plan on your trip with baby?

We're going on an Alaska cruise in Sept as our birthday/anniversary trip.  Kaya will be almost 7 months so I guess we'll have to pack baby food.  And we'll have to use disposable diapers since I don't think they have laundry facilities on cruise ships.  And even if they did I wouldn't want to have to pack the diapers.

Mamas: They say it "takes a village" to raise a child (or children)...who's in your "village" and do they all see eye-to-eye with your approach to raising your LO?

Unfortunately, it's just me & Brady.  I think we see eye-to-eye on most things.  I sure wish we had a village to help us, although I do have several friends who have offered to babysit.  Once I build up a stash of BM I'll take them up on it.  If we decide to have another child, we'll likely wait until we move back to Hawaii so that we have more help.

Mine has been unswaddled and still moves around quite a bit at night, keeping me up as well.  We're talking about starting sleep training after MH finishes his classes this semester.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

We just got back from our free getaway in costa rica and am so glad to be back.  I am starting to have BH contractions everyday and it is getting hard to move around.  I am exhausted and have no energy to hardly do anything.  His baby bed is full of stuff to wash and put away and I have no energy to even start and I have another shower this weekend and the last one next weekend.  So probably by next weekend the crib will be so full of stuff I will be to overwhelmed to even look at it, but have to find the energy somewhere...ho huuummmm

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

go next week on cinco de mayo

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

    nothing yet

    (5) How long have you been TTC or how long did it take you to get PG?

    It took us 17 cycles

    (6) What's your favorite PG or BR thing these days? Bonus for a PIP or link.

I loved how everyone was so nice to us during our trip and was so eager to help b/c of my bump

    (7) Spanking?  Yay or Nay. Why?

probably yay b/c MH and I were both spanked and his kids were spanked and we al turned out ok.  I don't think that you need to spank all the time but there is a time and place where spanking is needed.  I think a lot of kids that I know that don't get spanked would not be helluns if there parents would smack that a$$ a few times.  But the kids also have no respect either b/c the are not afraid of getting a spanking for their actions and they just roll their eyes at time out.

    (8) Any summer travel plans?  If you're PG how far along will you be?  If you have a baby how will you pack and plan on your trip with baby?

No more trip for us for awhile.  We do plan to go to the beach for a weekend in October when the kids have fall break so that their mom can pick them up to stay with her for a week.

Mamas: They say it "takes a village" to raise a child (or children)...who's in your "village" and do they all see eye-to-eye with your approach to raising your LO?

We have my parents and some of his family that we live by that will be able to help watch him.  But i don't know about my parents agreeing with our style but we shall see.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 22w4d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling really good still, he's moving a lot and I can feel little jabs now which is fun.  I can't wait for MH to be able to feel him from the outside.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Next appt. is on Tuesday for just a regular check up.  We booked our 3D ultrasound for early June and I can't wait because we've hardly seen the baby, just for a few minutes at a time at the ultrasounds.  We are also possibly going crib/furniture shopping this weekend :)

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? Hmm... can't think of anything.  I've been in nesting mode though and have been researching like crazy.

    (5) How long have you been TTC or how long did it take you to get PG? We got a BFP on our 5th month trying, aka 5 months off of BCP.

    (6) What's your favorite PG or BR thing these days? Bonus for a PIP or link. I started a registry to keep track of what we need, there is sooo much stuff out there, it's overwhelming but fun :)

    (7) Spanking?  Yay or Nay. Why? MH and I were disciplined as kids, my Mom had 'the look' and occasionally I was tapped.  My Dad never spanked me, my Mom was the disciplinarian.  Not sure what we'll go with but some sort of discipline like the look or a tap, similar to what we had as kids maybe? Good question!

    (8) Any summer travel plans?  If you're PG how far along will you be?  If you have a baby how will you pack and plan on your trip with baby? We have time off at the end of July, a month or so from our due date.  Maybe a trip to Seattle or to visit my parents? Not sure, we may just stay home and prepare for LO.  We are such travel bugs that we may travel with the baby if the time is right, I don't know how I'll hold off not going to Hawaii but we'll see...

Mamas: They say it "takes a village" to raise a child (or children)...who's in your "village" and do they all see eye-to-eye with your approach to raising your LO? Our parents are local but live a ferry ride away (both sets).  We do have other family around us locally so that will be nice.

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers, link to your chart! Soon!
