poll: how much do you tip

...your hair stylist?  (a percentage answer might work best here).  do you also tip the person who washes your hair before a cut?  if so, how much?

Re: poll: how much do you tip

  • I usually tip 20% for a haircut (I'm unsure if that is right or not, but it sounds about right to me). And if I get my hair washed before hand (I usually wash it myself before I go there), then I'll throw the person 3-4 dollars. I hope I don't under tip, but I have no clue...I get a haircut like once a year. lol

  • I usually tip about 20% too, but I go to the salon near me in Brooklyn, and the prices there are super cheap. I usually tip the lady washing my hair a few dollars. I have no idea if that's "correct", but I'm sure they appreciate it.
  • MrsDE was all over this question - lol - I know you pulled out that tip calculator - lol.

I always tip the hair washer $5 and the hair stylist at least $20.

  • My flo-bee wont accept my tips
  • I tip the person who cuts my hair 20% and the person who washes my hair 10%.  At the salon I go to, the person who washes your hair also does the blow drying  so that is why I give a little more.  I only get my hair cut about twice a year so I don't feel weird about paying a little extra.

  • I usually tip 20% also, and $5 to the shampoo girl.

  • My stylist and shampoo girl are the same person (Stacy Pitt) so I tip her at least 20% (because she still charges me her "back in the day when I first started going to her" prices, so sometimes 20% isn't enough.

  • I go to the salon about 3 - 4 times a month (I am black and I can't do anything with my hair!).

I usually give the hair dresser (usually the same person, perms my hair or washes and sets, and blowdries as needed) a few dollars and then at Christmas, I go all out (as great as 'out' can be on my budget).

  • thanks ladies!

i got a haircut yesterday at my local little brooklyn salon that i've been going to and recommending for as long as i've lived here...they give a great haircut for $40 and up.  can't. go. wrong.

but it never fails that when i tip the shampoo girl just a few bucks, they act as though i am the only person who ever tips them.  i was like, "am i even SUPPOSED to tip them?"

  • I usually tip 20-25%.  I must admit I've never tipped the shampoo guy separately - I guess I've always assumed that the stylists tip them out.  Hmm.
