Foundation Help - MAC?

Okay, so I got my makeup done at Mac.  I don't really wear makeup a lot so I've been practicing everyday and wearing it.  Well, I got their moistureizer and foundation and I'M GLOWING.  So much so that my co-workers are asking if i'm preggo.

So i've got 3 weeks to the day to figure out what the heck to do about it.  I have an oily t-zone and I think the combo of moisturizer and foundation is really making me shiny.  Sure when I put powder on it goes away, but I can't be powdering everyday.

So... what do you ladies use/reccomend.  I'm thinking I may have to find something non-MAC as i'm now hearing that their foundation sucks.

Re: Foundation Help - MAC?

  • I actually use cheap stuff - just cover girl true blend. I do have to powder my nose throughout the day if I don't want it to look shiny though. Maybe sticking to the mineral foundations would prevent having to do that?
  • The foundation that I got from MAC is a mineral foundation.

I'm thinking I may have to go spend a $100 in walgreens and just try a bunch of different ones..LOL.

  • The glowing is a bad thing?

If so, go back to Mac and ask for something to help.  I use Bobbi Brown stick foundation but I don't have oily skin.  People on the F&B board are raving about the CoverGirl foundation that lasts all day.  You might want to ask over there as well.

  • I've used nothing but Bare Minerals for the past 5+ years and it's anything but "glowing" but since you spent all this money at MAC, I doubt that you want to totally change the make-up.

I agree with Mary.  I would go back to MAC and show them what you're talking about and explain how you'd rather it look.  Maybe I should go to MAC because I would love to have a glow!

  • I'm planning to take the foundation back to MAC, and either get a different one or just more of their other products that I like.

Um, I don't think you ladies want the glow I'm talking about.  It starts off as a glow and yes, I'm getting A LOT of compliments on my makeup (probably because I never wear anything more than tinted moisturizer and mascara), but I have such an oily t-zone and with the founation, after about an hour or two...my face looks WET.  It's horrible.  And in pictures... yeah, not good at all!!!

I've got some time to play around so we'll see.

  • I've used Clinique foundation for years and I love it. I use MAC eyeshadow and liner but wasn't impressed with their foundation. There is a Clinique one made specifically for combination skin that works great for me. It's called Superfit. I combine that with their pressed powder and I get just the right amount of coverage. Keeps me shine-free for hours.
  • I've had problems with MAC in the past because some of their makeup artists seem to have a "one foundation fits all" policy.

Go back & tell them exactly what the problem is. I used to get embarrassed to tell them how shiny I was getting, and then I just got over myself and probably even over-exaggerated the problem.

I have an oily t-zone also, and this is what I used & it worked for me:

First I put a small amount (size of a pea) of the Strobe Cream in a dish I could swirl a makeup brush is - I used the bottom of the foundation compact (where the sponge goes). You spritz a little water on the makeup brush and then swirl it around in the Strobe Cream. Then I took the makeup brush and swirled it around in Studio Tech foundation (creamy solid). This helps the foundation go on much lighter & smoother... so you don't feel cakey. For a top powder to set everything, I used Mineralize Skinfinish Natural.

I used these brushes: 129 for powder, 187 for creamy foundation, 168 for blush & bronzer.

I also used the Fix+ to spritz brush 187 with water. It just take one spray, that's plenty. It also helps calm your skin since you're going to be attacking it with all sorts of makeup and brushes, LOL.

Seriously, when the guy did my makeup, I thought he was crazy when he used the Strobe Cream in combo with the creamy foundation, but it seriously worked. One of the problems with an oily tzone can be that your skin actually isn't moisturized enough, so this helps. I don't use the cream foundation for daily use, I just use the powder. This makeup regime that I used on the BIG day make my skin looks flawless - airbrushed. It was crazy amazing I could even do that on my own. :)

I think you should go back to MAC and ask them to try ^this^ on you & see what you think. Also - have you looked into getting either the loose or pressed Blot Powder to use on your tzone? I use that daily because it's super light & transparent, so it doesn't look caked on. It helps control shine, but still lets you "glow".

Good luck! HTH! Let me know if you have any more problems, I've been around the block with MAC many, many, many times. Hahahaha.

  • I bought MAC's powder foundation and have never had a problem with it. After I put it on I use Bare Minerals mineral veil over it and then MAC's finishing mist to set it and get rid of the 'powdery' look. I too get an oily T-zone over the course of the day and the mineral veil keeps me from getting shiny. It has starch in it that absorbs the oil.

  • I had MAC foundation for my wedding too.  I have never worn it before, so I didn't know anything different- but I also glowed.  It was not a good look.  GL finding something else!
