anyone have KY Derby plans this weekend?

i went to a derby party last year and it was so much fun, so looking forward to it again! got my sundress picked out and same hat from last year i guess. i've never actually been to a horse race before, but i know i'd like it.

i'm trying to get into blogging (again), so i started off w/ a derby themed post. see PIB.

Re: anyone have KY Derby plans this weekend?

  • I never have really gotten into the whole KY Derby thing.  This weekend our neighborhood is having a belated Earth Day celebration, so that will keep us busy on Saturday.  And then on Sunday, I'm throwing a surprise baby shower for 2 couples in my supper club.  I'm kinda nervous since this is the first baby shower I've attended!
  • Oooh, Katie, that sounds like fun!  I would love a reason to dress up and put on my huge southern-belle hat!

My sister, dad, and I always "bet" on a horse.  We call each other the morning of the race and make our pick.  I love that tradition.

My sister went to the derby last year.  She said it was fun seeing all the women dressed up with their hats.

I record the pre-show stuff so I can look at all the people!

    Have fun!

  • I hope we get to watch it.  It's my friend's birthday and I just found out today that she wants to start her party at 2 or 3, and don't know if anyone else will have interest in watching.

When I was in NC one year we had a Derby party and it was a lot of fun - we had a contest for best decorated hat and people dressed up a little.

  • We'll probably just watch it on TV--it's a "must see" for us.  Don't have enough friends that are interested to actually throw a party for it, unfortunately, though it's right up my alley!  I love sundresses and any excuse to wear a bonnet.

When Dh and I lived on Long Island, he lived very close to Belmont Racetrack.  We LOVED going to the see "the ponies" not just on Belmont Stakes day, but it was something we loved to do Friday nights and well, whenever we didn't have anything better to do.  Talk about a super cheap date night--I just loved it and miss horse racing and can't wait for the next time we get to watch some!!
