Follow up to my pet finder post . . .

My mom said I can get that dog if I can convince my dad.

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that if I've convinced her, perhaps I can convince my dad.

No. I cannot. Why? It's our own fault. We've already pushed dad too far. He's allergic to all our pets but we just keep getting more.

We have 3 dogs, a cat, and fish. We already convinced him to take in Bud, the chihuahua from the nail salon in Queens. He's like a baby, that they love, but is more work than the other two dogs combined.

And we pushed him to the limit by doing things like adopting a cat while he's on a business trip.

Or my personal favorite - when my mom fostered a pregnant cat when I was six but didn't tell my dad for weeks. How did she pull this off? The pregnant cat looked just like our cat and they didn't like each other so they were rarely in the same room. But then one day the cat walked in and my dad said, "Man, Wilbur is getting fat" and one of us kids said, "That isn't Wilbur, that's the Mama cat!"

So I can ask, but I think I already know the answer . . .

Well, then maybe it's not your dog?  I know that sucks but I wouldn't want to push something on someone that isn't willing.  I hope it works out for the best.

Haha, yep. That's exactly who I named the cat after! And why I want to name my daughter Fern. Seems appropriate.

You're totally right. He seems perfect, but maybe he's just not my dog. I'll be mature about it in the end, I just want a dog so bad!

I think I'll have one by the end of this year which is still exciting!

  • Ok...so I think I missed something here...

Do you live with your parents?  I don't get why your mom has to get the dog for you and why your dad has a say in it...

I'd also be honest with the petfinder people who have the dog...they may not want a special needs dog going to a home with so many other pets.

(I'm not judging the quantity...we have 2 dogs and 2 cats ourselves...)

  • Ha!  I have a friend who loves GREASE and named her daughter, Sandy.--not Sandra Dee, just Sandy. Then again, she did have a rainbow wedding... and I wore crayola crayon ORANGE...

Anyway... Wow!  I've only ever had one dog and one cat-cause I wasn't living w DH when he had 2 dogs...-and that was when I was a kid.  I've never had my own dog and I've never desired one so much-prob cause our basset was always w me in the eves...

GL with Dad!... I don't fully understand, either, but I liked the prego cat story!

Sorry, it's confusing. My mom totally DOES NOT have to get the dog for me. I was looking on petfinder because I like to torture myself and I sent it to her as joke saying, "Mom, please get me this puppy. I promise to take him when I move. K thx bye".

But she wanted the dog too so she said if I convince my dad, I could have him.

So as much as I might pine for this dog, I know it's not going to happen. Honestly, even if they both said yes, I think I'd feel too bad to put my parents in that position.  And the dog . . . I think he'd be overwhelmed by three other dogs and a special needs cat (he fell on his head and is . . . interesting).

I will find my dog someday, it's just probably not this doggie. I'm happy he's with a no kill shelter now though.

But I still wish I could have him.

(Oh and I'm going to be living with my parents until I/we find a job up North. We want to wait until we know where our jobs will be before we choose where to live.)

  • Oh man, that sucks.  But, I agree it's probably not the best thing on top of everything else.  Things will fall into place when they're meant to be.  That's really funny about the cat story LOL!

  • If I thought I could get away with it I would do what your family did to your dad to my husband.  That is too funny.  Sorry it doesnt seem like you can get the dog.  Its sad.
