I know this has been talked about before, but it was a while ago....How much do you spend on groceries per week and for how many people? If you spend around $50 a week what does your list look like and what are some of your meals?
We currently spend about $100 a week on 2 people and we are wanting to cut this down to $50. I know people do it but I just don't know how it's possible.
Re: Weekly Grocery Cost
I shop for just DH and I. I plan meals to make 3-4 servings so that there are almost always leftovers, at least for DH's lunch the next day. We also buy a lot of produce and store brand items. We are also the type of people who can eat brown rice and a simple veggie as side dishes 2 or 3 times a week, so that saves us money. I do plan my meals ahead of time, shop every Sunday, and stick to my list. I rarely buy anything on impulse. Also, we eat a lot of chicken, so on weeks I buy a big bag of frozen breasts or cutlets, we spend a little more, but then the next week I won't really have to buy much meat at all.
That was a long story for a short answer, lol. But I would say we spend anywhere from $50-$70 a week, depending on what we need.
Here's a sample meal plan of mine; it's actually our plan for next week:
Monday- Chicken and Veggie Kebobs on the grill w/ baked sweet potatoes
Tuesday- Chicken Parm Burgers (made with ground chicken - healthy and cheap) and roasted asparagus
Wednesday-Mexican Chicken Soup and side salads
Thursday- Roasted Shrimp and Tomatoes w/ rice and Broccoli
Friday- Beef Stir Fry w/ lots of veggies
Sorry so long. I love talking about food.
We spend $50-$100 for all three of us, depending on what we need that week.
For some reason it seems like we always run out of toiletries at the same time, and that kills the grocery bill! LOL.
All I can say, if you're not doing it already, is to clip coupons! That saves us a fortune.
I also check the ads every week, and if I see something on sale that I know we'll need in the future, I do what I can do match the sales up to my coupons, and buy it ahead of time.
I try to anyway. It takes a little more time that I have, sometimes.
Here recently I've been buying meat only when it's on sale. I hardly ever have coupons for meat, so I don't have to worry about matching coupons up to sales, so if there's meat on sale, I buy it & freeze it.
I used to shop at Kroger and our bill used to be around $100 a week. We would cook eggs for dinner or eat cereal, chicken, burgers, quiche.... things that are less expensive.
One way I have saved money on our weekly groceries is shopping at Walmart. Our list rarely changes and when I go to Walmart our weekly cost is about $70-$75. I think they are a lot cheaper than Krogers. I do sometimes still go to Kroger for produce and organic veggies.
Just a suggestion, but on some things we buy it's a lot cheaper at Walmart.
I shop at Kroger and usually spend $50-$80 a week for DH & I. We do mainly chicken meals, with 1 "free night" a week. With our schedules, we usually don't make dinner one night a week. We grill out a ton, and do veggies/fruit. I also make casseroles at least once a week & DH packs the leftovers for lunch. I always surf the Kroger Weekly ad before I go and use coupons. If they have an item I use a lot on sale, I stock up. (For example, last week was $10 for $10 on Campbell's Soups - I stocked up on Cream of Chicken/Mushroom) Our Kroger does bonus coupons every week & it usually seems to pay of. I clip coupons almost every week!
In the summer we go to a farmers market in town that has reasonably prices fruits/veggies.
We buy all our personal products/cleaning supplies/paper products at Walmart or Target.
Hope that helps some
