Did they go up in NJ again? My car insurance policy just renewed and my policy went up $59 for a 6 month period. It's not going to break the bank, but it just went up two policy renewals ago and when I called, they just told me it was because NJ rates went up so I'm assuming it's the same thing this time.
It drives me nuts how expensive insurance is here in NJ, among other things.
I wonder if lowering my coverage would make that much of a difference. Right now we're at 100/300/50. Is 50/100/50 too risky to lower to? It's the next tier...

Re: Car Insurance Rates?
Our insurence didn't go up.
I would call them back and ask for some proof that NJ rates went up. That sounds like a really crap excuse to give you.
Mine actually just went down. I would definitely call and ask for some proof.
Who is your coverage through?
Our coverage is through Progressive. Ours went up after we were married since we moved to a new town 3 weeks after the wedding. Apparently it's more expensive to insure a car in Burlington Twp than it is in Moorestown. So we didn't even get to see the marriage decrease because of that.
I'm calling them right now and I'll keep you posted on what the say. Twenty bucks says they give me the same load of crap they gave me a year ago. Is there a way to prove they haven't gone up? I'm going to try Google, I just didn't know if anyone had a specific site I should visit.
ETA: They said this their rate revision for the state of NJ to maintain operating at a profitable rate. Yet, there is no documentation to support the rate revision. I'm hold for a supervisor right now but I doubt the will be helpful. I guess I'll spend the afternoon looking for a new insurance company...the problem is that I have an accident from 07 and my husband got a minor moving violation in 08 that is really killing us right now.

I know this probably sounds ridiculous, my Dad still covers me under his AAA so that probably wouldn't work, because then they would realize I don't live at the same address anymore (moved out in 08). BUT, I think next year we're going to buy our own AAA policy so this could be an option for us in the future. Thanks!
