dog moms-enviro allergies

j has had environmental allergies since he was a puppy. we don't know what specifically as we really don't care that much to get him tested, we're just prepared for it each year.

he's totally fine this year, usually by now he's chewed his paws raw. is it just me or have the allergens been a little low so far this year? usually by may 1 we're on full force claritin and benedryl.

Re: dog moms-enviro allergies

  • The vet recommended we keep Rudy on benedryl constantly for his allergies.  We also aren't sure what are causing his, but his symptoms have been non-existent lately.  So that either means there are less allergens or we finally found the magical combination of food and drugs.
  • Ever since I've switched to Natural Balance Ultra Premium Formula our dogs allergies have improved greatly!

Our Yorkie apparently had a flea allergy his fur literally fell out from his neck back. We got rid of them and he was on steroids for the longest time. His hair barely grew back but we had to take him off the steroids because the vet didn't like him on them for so long. Natural Balance took care of it and his fur is seriously filling in! I think it was a food allergy myself.

Our boxer had a lot of gunk in her ears and we'd have to clean them often. The gunk made her ears itch and it transferred to the toes. They were always red and she was gnawing on them. Natural Balance has helped with that as well.

  • we know it's not a food issue, we've done some pretty thorough food trials to rule it out.

  • Our dogs allergies just kicked in this week.  I was convinced it was fleas and even had DH give the cats a bath haha, but it's just allergies.

  • i'm taking Ruby into the vet tomorrow to have her nose looked at. i think it could be an environmental allergy, but not sure. her nose is so dry and cracked. for whatever reason it got REALLY bad while she was at doggie daycare yesterday.
  • Our dog's allergies have been bad this year, but not as bad as last spring. We had him tested in the winter and he's allergic to a ton of stuff and is on allergy shots. We've already started to notice a difference on the shots. The problem becomes that he licks his feet raw, they get yeast infections, and he's very allergic to yeast.  He's on chlorpheniramine since benadryl and claritin didn't work on him.
