Home ownership is bad news...

My formerly frugal self just wants to buy, buy, buy... I think I've already mentally spent 2/3 of our tax credit.

So far we have bought faux wood blinds for the entire house, a new basement door (we want to put the litterbox in the basement, but can't leave the door open b/c of it's location and we didn't want to mess up the 80+ year old solid hardwood door with a cat flap), cat flap for the new basement door, paint to paint the new door, doorknob for the new door, shelving for the kitchen from hell to help me sanely survive such a tiny, poorly laid out kitchen until we remodel in a couple years, a grill, lawnmower, weed whacker, piles of mulch, a new ironing board b/c our old one got busted up in the move, a new drying rack b/c our old one has had one leg in the grave for a good year now...

and we're not done yet... we still need a new boiler (furnace) before next winter since our boiler is old enough that the Smithsonian would probably take it, and I want a patio dining set to use this summer, maybe some landscaping shrubbery for the front beds... phew.  Indifferent

Re: Home ownership is bad news...

  • Just remember you don't have to do everything at once!  Well, the furnace is probably a sooner rather than later project, but everything else can be done slowly!

Do you have pics to share of your new place?

  • But you are using it for house stuff.  Now if you were using it to buy the new iPad, expensive purses and non-house stuff, it'd be a problem.

  • I'll have to take some and try to get them in a bio or uploaded somewhere.  I keep waiting until it is "presentable." I think once we get the cats' crapper out of the office (so gross!), and all of our naked windows covered with blinds I'll feel relatively settled in the house.

  • I can't even imagine, I am like this with our apartment! And I am the kind of person that wants things done and set up ASAP. I can't wait to see pictures!

Embarrassed  ::giving my new purse the side eye...and tucking away my vacation itinerary::

Luckily, all we REALLY need is a new washer/dryer and an entertainment center for the living room.  We won't put grass in till next spring so that'll buy us some time for the lawn mower (and prob the shed) but we'll prob buy a patio set w/in a couple of weeks of moving in since it'll be summer.

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

I've got some serious patio furniture lust, but patio furniture prices are insane.  We've spent WAY less on some of our indoor furniture.  We think, for pricing reasons, we may go with Ikea's Vino or Applaro (drop leaf) outdoor dining sets.  Even Ikea's run over $600, though, by the time you buy multiple chairs, a table, umbrella, seat cushions...

Ugh, I know.  I fell in love with a Crate and Barrel set, but we don't even have a C&B here...I'll have to pay shipping on top of the cost of the set.
