My beautiful state's coast

Please keep it in your thoughts. I dont know how it is being portrayed everywhere, but its real bad and the economic and ecologic impact will be devastating. Please keep the families of the 11 men lost in your thoughts and prayers too. This is just so sad all around and I even feel bad for the oil companies because we all know that this is a dangerous job and so many things are done to make sure no one is harmed and the ecosystem is not damaged, but accidents happen. I plan on going assist in clean up after we let out of school in may.

I've been following this in the news a little bit, although they haven't talked about impact much.  The oil is still spreading, isn't it?

Will keep the families in my t&p, and I hope the cleanup efforts start making some real progress...

  • How have I been oblivious to this news? Wow, that's so sad. Kudos to you for planning to go help. Edit: wait, I heard something about putting a match to the oil spill to clean it up, is that it? Sorry, I only watch the news in passing...
  • They are trying to burn it off but there is too much oil to get it all. It is hitting the coastline sometimes today. Reports are that people can smell it in nola. Our wetlands are already precious and now this. They think this is worse than exxon valdez. I am absolutely heartbroken :(
  • They say it will hit Alabama's coast in 2 days.  We're on standby to help with animal cleanup (you know those Dawn commercials where they're washing ducks and penguins....that what we do!).  I'm just so anctious about all this.  People don't realize that not only is this and environmental hazard that can get on the animals it also affects them from a food standpoint.  With all the fish and other water species, there are going to be a lot of STARVING animals because all their food is either toxic or dead.  And its baby season! Imagine how many babies are going to die from this!  Its just an ecological nightmare and it absolutely breaks my heart that I have to sit here and wait for it to happen.

  • I don't think people realize how BIG this is. Not just for Louisiana, but for the entire Gulf Coast. This will not only devastate our coast, and the environment and wildlife that's in it. It will devastate our entire economy. Entire parishes live and die on the seafood industry. This will kill that. We ship seafood to your grocery stores. Fish, shrimp, oysters and crabs all come from the gulf coast. It will kill oyster beds for a long time to come. We live on tourism, based on food and culture, having no seafood in a seafood restaurant, doesn't end well for that place. Trying to walk through the quarter and smelling oil doesn't either.

Seasonal economies like the Alabama Gulf Coast and Florida's Panhandle will be effected. Businesses will close down. No one wants to go to the beach covered in oil for vacation.

It is horrible on so many levels starting with the loss of 11 lives and ending with who knows what.

Yes, It does stink. It's the most nauseating, awful smell and it's everywhere and you can't get rid of it.

This is just not what we needed as a city, state or region.

  • I'm so sad about this.  :(
  • This absolutely breaks my heart. Where is thereinformation about volunteering for clean-up? I would like to find more information on this.
