I got screwed on ticket prices. Student prices are 11 bucks. I ended up with the non student discount of 16 bucks a ticket because I ordered the tickets online. And got an additional 3 dollar charge for having them at the box office. So if you have a student ID, use it. But the discount I posted below is still better than full price.
I was afraid also about how the exhibit was going to be because I don't do well with dead bodies. I pass out at open coffin funerals. That being said, the exhibit was so tastefully done. It's spectacular. There aren't a lot of full bodies (maybe 10 total) and they are all dissected so there isn't much on the "Seeing dead people" side of it. The cardiovascular portion was my favorite. Just amazing how they were able to isolate everything.
It is incredibly tasteful. As for 6 year olds, it's kind of up to you. If they are sciency and whatnot, I think it would be incredible for them to see. Especially to get a good understanding of their bodies at an early age. There are a few exhibits showing children vs. adult structures so it would be a great educational experience to compare and contrast between mommy and me. There were quite a few young children there and all the comments were WOW! WHOA! I look like that on the inside?
The only caution I send out is there is a portion at the end about prenatal development. The fetuses used were those that had been lost due to disease and genetic malformations. It is hard to look at, but still absolutely incredible that they were able to preserve and show what happens throughout pregnancy. Don't worry, there aren't any of the baby in utero.
Again, I was hesitant to go because of my inability to handle things like that, but it turned out to be spectacular. The amount of time and care that went in to preserving these bodies is amazing. The information you gain about the human body is spectacular. And honestly, the thought of being able to preserve my body for science and learning is something I wouldn't have thought to do before, but can definitely say now that Im not opposed to it. I'd highly HIGHLY recommend everyone to go.
Re: Update: The Body Exhibit
That's awesome, thanks for the encouragement.
