Christine,

I feel bad for you with the whole sleeping thing. Bella's 9 months and is still not a super star sleeper. Some nights it's hours on end and some nights it's 2 hours at a time. I want to pull my hair out on those nights because I KNOW she can sleep longer but I can't listen to her CIO, I can listen to her fuss a bit but not "real" cries... I just wanted you to know I understand how you feel.

On a side note, you know the risks of letting babies sleep on their bellies... so do I. However, I let Bella nap on her tummy during the day and I stayed awake doing laundry or other things. I would check on her CONSTANTLY. She slept like a champ on her tummy!! Finally once I was confident that she could lift her head from the mattress, I let her sleep on her tummy at night.. she slept MUCH better.

To this day, she sleeps on her tummy, I don't even put her on her back or she'll be crying in mins. Good luck, there is hope... maybe try the tummy for naps and see how you feel :)

  • Thanks, Sarah.  Actually, it's funny you mention tummy sleeping because this morning when I brought her to bed I decided to try it out and she slept 2 1/2 hours.  Then she had 3 tummy naps today...short ones, but she seemed comfy on her tummy.  She does fuss for up to 10 min before falling asleep but she doesn't cry like she does when I swaddle her and put her on her back.  More like a whiny cry.  So I'm gonna keep doing it.  I think a lot of people put their babies on their tummy once they can lift their head...I've heard it from my cousin and my friend.  I know it's not recommended but I also don't believe tummy sleeping in and of itself causes SIDS.  I check on her a lot even when she's on her back just cuz I worry when she's been quiet a long time.

I do hope she gets better before 9 months!  I wouldn't mind if she got up once and went back to sleep easily.  =/
