S/O of reading post - girls who read Shopaholic series...

I don't want to highjack that thread.

My mom has read the whole series and loooved it, begged me to read it. So I had high expectations, which probably didn't help.

The reason I didn't like it at first is she is sooooo farking whiny! I wanted to smack her through the book. I was just so annoyed by her. The end when she smartened up was much easier to tolerate. However, by then I kind of felt like it was incredibly predictable. But I was happy that she wasn't whiny so I liked it much better than the rest.

So I guess what I'm getting at is, is she whiny like that in the rest of the books? If so I don't think I'll bother, but if not I'll pick them up for some light fluff reading.

Re: S/O of reading post - girls who read Shopaholic series...

  • I read them all, for some unknown reason, and hated every single one. I actually did find the very cute mildly cute, as a 22 y/o. But the rest just annoyed me to no end.
  • I read the whole series but it was several years ago so I don't remember too much. I loved it just because it was an easy read but I do think she's pretty whiny for the rest of the series. Have you read the Shopaholic and Baby (or whatever it's called) one? I think I enjoyed that one the most.
  • I'm thinking maybe I'll just pick up the others at the library rather than spending any money on them. We'll see if I end up liking them any better!

  • belated reply, but:

yes, she is a little whiny. It's didn't annoy me as much as make me relieved I wasn't like her. I think in the next 2 books she's not quite as bad, although I haven't read them in a few years.

  • If you didn't like the first book then don't bother with the rest. Sophie Kinsella is one of my favorite authors and I LOVE Becky but if she's not your cup of tea you should just stop reading.  Seriously.  Becky is who she is - and she likes to complain; particularly when there's money involved.
