Just a heads up...

A water main leak in the Boston area has lead to a boil water order for a larger number of Boston area communities.

Re: Just a heads up...

  • I saw that! The hotel I work at is letting every guest have water out of the mini bar for free. Not sure how the restaurant is handling it. Does anyone know what happens if someone accidentally ingests the water without boiling it (a guest asked)? Thankfully, living in North Reading, my water comes from the Andover reserve.

I'm in North Reading too and wasn't drinking the water since Wilmington and Reading were on the list, I didn't know our water came from somewhere else, good to know!

I don't have any actual information on what would happen if someone accidentally drank the water but I think they would maybe have some stomach upset if they drank a lot of it. We used to have boil water advisories after hurricanes in FL and some people would still drink from the tap and nothing horrible happened.

I wasn't sure either when I saw the list, so I called the North Reading Fire Department and they said we weren't affected. *phew*

Which area of North Reading are you in? We're off of 28, between Rt's 62 and 125. We're new to the area so we don't know anyone up here yet. Smile

  • I just got an email about this. I sent it to our tenant. YUCK.

I'm off of 62, right near the Wilmington line. We've lived here a year and still don't know many people, haha.

ETA: I meant to quote Laina.. I'm not randomly posting about where I live and how many people I know.. Stick out tongue

  • Thank you for posting this; your post was the first I'd heard of this all day.  I've been in a gym playing volleyball all day and had no idea.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I can't figure out if we're affected or not. I've seen some lists that include Woburn and some say we just get "partial" water and sewer water from there so I don't know what to think. And our apt complex is literally on the border of Reading and Wilmington (because of where it is I would bet that this land used to belong to one of those towns before these apts were built 4 years ago) so it's really hard to know. And of course the leasing office isn't open yet so we can't call. Is it okay to shower in this reservoir water? It creeps me out a little!

I think there's the possibility of contracting parasites, and manifest symptoms would be GI issues (nausea, diarrhea, vomiting).

We're in Newton and we ran to the grocery store, and they had NO water; still, sparkling, flavored, etc.

Its on the news now, and it seems like the only thing its safe for is showering, you can't even wash dishes or hands with it.

You'll probably get giardia or something.

  • I'm not sure if it's because of the water, but I drank quite a bit of Somerville and Cambridge tap water on Saturday, and last night and today I've definitely been feeling very nauseas. When I heard all the news about it, they said only Weston was affected, so I didn't worry. I guess I should have!

I know Cambridge wasn't affected, not sure about Somerville though.
