was this a bad idea??

I didn't think so, but then I talked to DH and he thought it was.

Yesterday I ran into my boss at conference sessions. She asked my plans for dinner that night and I told her that I was going to a reception at 6:15 but that I could do dinner after if she'd like. At 7:15 I realized that I would probably be there for awhile longer b/c I was running into so many people I know. So I texted my boss - told her that I would be a bit later than I thought, and that she should come meet up with us (she would have also known other people). She declined and said that she would grab dinner without me since it was getting late.

Does this sound like I stood my boss up??

Re: was this a bad idea??

  • Um...kind of. You did at least call her to say you were running late...but it does seem a little rude, especially since it was your boss. I'm just thinking how I would feel in her position.

  • I don't think so. You were at a reception for a work function they flew you across the country to attend. She was probably just hungry.
  • Sorry.  It does sound like you may have stood her up, but you did text her and it sounds like you were at a networking function for work, so she shouldn't feel too offended
  • yikes. yeah, maybe that wasn't good. I got caught up with knowing so many people that I realized my initial plan of leaving after 45 minutes to an hour would mean I wouldn't be able to see everyone. I still would have done dinner with her, but knew that making her wait until 8 would have been more rude than letting her back out if she knew I was running that late. Hope she's not upset!!
  • I wouldn't worry too much about it... I guess technically you did "stand her up" but it was a work thing, you told her you were going to the reception, you let her know that you were running late... so yeah it's not the best situation..... but if I were in her shoes I may be a little upset, but not upset enough to get angry or stay angry.  I wouldn't worry too much about it!
