I need your input for the GTG
1) Suggest a place. I'm all for the Chicago area or a couple of hours outside of it. Just because there are already April 08ers there and several that can drive in.
2) Suggest an area and what there is to do. We don't need a jam packed schedule, but one or two big things that you think will "sell" the location to others.
I did some research on SWA and if we can get at least 10 people going to the same place, we qualify for a "group rate". What that rate would be is still TBD, but a discount is a discount!
Thanks!
Re: I need your input for the GTG
I'm all for either chicago or SLT!
They both have ton to offer. Chicago we could do Grant park and Navy pier. Great ressturants or even for those who don't have kids the Lincoln Park Zoo is aweome or even the Brookfield zoo. There's the Shred Aquarium ton of great muesums and tons of boat tours I know Kara is probably the bet for the boat tour I know she wanted to do one of them and I cna't remember which one. But I'm up for anything!
Chicago sounds great to me.
I am concerned with a few hours away from Chicago or a major airport. If we have to rent cars that will make the cost higher and some might not be able to come. Doesn't Chicago have public transportation?
Amanda has some good suggestions for Chicago (I totally didn't read that part of the post yesterday). My only concern for things like the Zoo and Museums would be that they'd possibly be REALLY packed, being the last month of summer vacay for kiddos AND we'd be going on a weekend. I'm sure Brookfield would be packed (I don't know if it'd be an easy get-to from Chicago though). Lincoln Park is free (last I went there), so it'd be a whole other zoo, I think.
Boat tours would be fun. Grant Park and Navy Pier also would be great. Maybe we could look into a restaurant with a banquet room that has decent prices for a larger group and do a brunch there.
Sorry I was pretty much echoing Amanda, but she did give some good ideas. I'm not all too familiar with Chicago in location of everything and things like that, I was more of a suburb chick. Driving into Chicago wasn't my thing (always stressed me out). Though if the G2G is in Chicago and I can go, I won't mind doing some city driving to see you girls
Chicago in late July can be pretty much anything, there's no telling what the weather will actually be like!
I wouldn't suggest brookfield zoo because it's about $40-50 for just the entry, same with the downtown museums except for maybe the art institute (i think they're around $15). Lincoln Park Zoo is free still and nice for a free zoo.
Suburbs may or may not be cheaper with the some of the rates you can get downtown, however, travel will be cheaper as you could get a few rental cars divided by people. SW only flies into midway which is a PITA if you're going to any suburbs, downtown it's fine. ORD is easier if you're coming to more northern burbs. Both have public transport into the city. Most burbs also have metra lines into the city if we wanted to do a day down there. There's also a few botanic gardens and other things in the burbs that we could do.
Mostly what's in the city is really expensive bars (think $20/drink) and museums. I love the city and it's wonderful and great but it's also not always cheap when you want to go out. And plus some people would be bringing babies so I don't think we'd go out that much. If you have an idea of city vs. burbs and what you want to do, I can tell you what's around them and what you want to do. We could always go downtown one day and see Grant Park/Millennium Park and have a picnic by it. That would be a lot of fun. Navy Pier is boring to be honest! The architectural tour is supposed to be really fun too ($20-30) and gets you to see the city well.
I was just there last night and going back today for an engagement session, so I'll try and think of more things to do that are low-cost/free. We'd probably be better off getting a hotel in the burbs (taxes are less....taxes in the city are RIDICULOUS) and then take the metra down one day, cab over to grant park as it's about a 3/4 mile walk and then spend the day down there and then have a dinner/brunch out on the burbs.
SWA only flies out of louisville, not cincinnati, so we could totally fly out together!
That sounds good to me! Are you bringing miss Mia along?? Maybe you can just come to my house and Paul can take us to the airport if he isn't going...or even if he does go!
sounds good to me!
