Random Europe Question...
Who's been?
Where would you recommend we go? Any must see cities or websites to help us out?
We aren't going probably for another year, probably year and half. I pay my car off in a few months and we decided ot take that regular payment and use it to save for a trip. The last "big" vacation without kiddos. Neither of us have been.
How much money? Where to go? What to miss?

We are a more adventurous couple. We both like history and museums, but for different reasons. I like the paintings dave likes the sculpture and more ancient sections... which sometimes makes for a difficult trip. I don't think we would mind going off the beaten path and seeing less touristy areas. Focus on the beauty and relaxing of it all.
I know I definitely want to see Italy and some churches. I majored in art, so there is that draw for me, dave likes the historical buildings and architecture... maybe we should go separately. Haha.
I wouldn't mind just getting a list of locations and finding more out about them and then making our choice. We are so far away from the actual trip. Just trying to plan out how long we want to go, and what the budget will be.
Thanks guys!
It isn't Italy, but I have spent a great deal of my life in Russia, and I think it is a great travel destination for art, historical buildings, architecture, churches, etc.
If you are at all interested in Russia (or Estonia,Latvia, Ukraine) let me know!
I have also spent time in W.Europe- France, Switz, Ireland.
When I was 16, I went to France, Italy and Spain. My favorite was Italy. Rome was the best, followed by Barcelona. Madrid was a dirty city IMO. But then again, this was from a 16 yr old point of view. I think I would appreciate it much more now. Lots of churches, lots of buildings. Dress code applies if you want to go into certain areas.
As for $$$, I don't even know. it was a school sponsored thing and I don't remember the cost.
I did 4 weeks over southern spain and morocco. I would hit up morocco in a heartbeat. Dave would love the Al Hambra in Granada (it's a full day thing and get your tickets like a year in advance...seriously...) Granada was gorgeous and by far my favorite southern city. It's easily a day trip to the coast and you could spend a few nights there too and even take a boat over to Gibraltor. We also went to a few other places like Seville (big city, nice, but not really anything fun) Madrid (boring after we had so much fun everywhere else) and Cordoba which was small and we went to the mosque there (has the arches in it, just gorgeous) all cobblestones, walking city but only spend a day there.
Maybe you should try a mediterrean cruise? My friend did it last year and it stopped in Spain, Italy and a few other places, she said it was amazing and hit everything they'd ever want to see.
I want to go to Ireland someday. And if someone told me I had to pack and leave within 5 minutes for Morocco, i'd do it in a heartbeat. No joke. But you can really only wear jeans and t-shirts the entire time which isn't bad but the food and shopping is to die for.
I should have mentioned Fodors.com- pre Liam that was my home away from home. Fairly active message boards, too- and lots of helpful folks.
Ahh you girls make me want to get the little guy a passport (and oh wait- renew my own!) and leave June 25th for somewhere new! Michael is invited too, of course.
Paris is my happy place.
