H and I decided that we need a vacation. We haven't been able to spend nearly enough time together lately with work, travel, school, etc and need to just get away. Preferably somewhere with a beach for at least 4 nights under $2000 with air.

Re: Vacation Poll
--Where have you gone in the past 2-3 years? (resort, hotel, country, etc.) We went on a cruise and to North Carolina, but still the best all time vacation was cruising around Hawaii
--How long did you stay? Would you have stayed longer if you could?
We cruise for a week, North Carolina for a week and cruised Hawaii for 13 days
--Would you go back?
Yes to all of them
--If you didn't like it, why
--Where have you gone in the past 2-3 years? (resort, hotel, country, etc.) I've been all over for work. For pleasure, we've done St. Kitts, Curacao, Ft. Lauderdale and Vegas
--How long did you stay? Would you have stayed longer if you could?
St. Kitts and Curacao, we did a week. Ft Lauderdale is our long weekend gig with FIL. Vegas we did 4 days last time.
--Would you go back?
Yes to all of them.
--If you didn't like it, why
I wouldn't do Curacao again unless I could get a direct flight. The layover in Aruba was annoying.
For your purposes, St. Kitts would be worth looking into (pics in my bio), as would Bermuda, which has gotten rave reviews from my BIL/SIL. Vegas would also work well as long as you go when it's warm enough to enjoy the pools. It's not the beach, but it's still fun.
The only real vacation we've taken recently was our honeymoon.
We went to Excellence Riveria Maya for 8 days and 7 nights. Including airfare, it cost us $2500. So, if you were looking to stay for less nights, I think you should be able to swing that resort.
But that depends on whether or not an AI for couples is what you were looking for or not. Good luck!
ETA: We would 100% go back, and we might even be celebrating our 1 year anniversary there, it was great!

--Where have you gone in the past 2-3 years? (resort, hotel, country, etc.) Ireland - Ritz Carlton in Powerscourt (not including food, ~$900 per person); Riviera Maya, Mexico - Secrets Capri and Bahia Principe (both were gifts.. not sure of the cost); St. Lucia - Jalousie Plantation (around $2500 per person).
--How long did you stay? Would you have stayed longer if you could? 6 nights for each of the above trips. And yes to staying longer at each o them.
--Would you go back? YES to each.
--If you didn't like it, why? n/a

Moon Palace in Mexico - about $1300/person for 4 nights. It was nice - typical all-inclusive. food wasn't great. I was ready to go home. we went for a friend's wedding.
St. Lucia for our honeymoon (9 nights) - Sandals Grande & Tikaye. It was about $3500/person (not including food/drinks at Tikaye or excursions), but we got upgraded rooms. I would go back to Tikaye in a heartbeat. Awesome place. We're hoping to get back there eventually - maybe our 5 yr? Sandals was the nicest AI I've been to - food was pretty good and all water sports. I think after 9 nights we were ready to go home. I think you need at least 7 nights in St Lucia b/c it's a long flight and such a beautiful island.
South Beach, FL (3 nights) - I love SoBe. We stayed at the Park Central. It's not bad - you're not in your room much. Love the restaurants and beaches there. 3 nights in SoBe is plenty! you're broke by that time
We've been to Couples Swept Away in Negril Jamaica in July 2008 and Gran Bahia in Runaway Bay Jamaica in April 2009.
We were there for about a week each. A week was the perfect amount of time. If the places and times of the year were switched I would have wanted a second week at Couples in April.
I would go back to both- Couples because it's amazing (I would avoid summer months though) and Gran Bahia because it was super affordable.
You can go to Gran Bahia for 4 nights for $690 per person including your flight and tax. It's EXTREMELY clean, but the food is just average.
--Where have you gone in the past 2-3 years? (resort, hotel, country, etc.) I 2nd Dreams Resorts. DH and I went to the one in Punta Cana in 08 and had a blast. Its not the fanciest of places but perfect getaway and affordable. We recently came back from Aruba (radisson) and it was entirely toooooo expensive.
--How long did you stay? Would you have stayed longer if you could? Dreams we stayed 5 nights....def would have stayed longer. Aruba not so much
--Would you go back? Dreams...yes Aruba....no
--If you didn't like it, why? Again....Aruba was too pricey and Americanized.
