photo shoot = epic fail :(

the weather was beautiful today and cleared up nicely with no signs of rain at all! too bad the photo shoot was still a complete failure

I don't know what it is with her! I thought the timing for today's shoot would be perfect b/c she normally naps around noon-ish until 1-2pm and we had it scheduled for 2:30pm (leaving the house around 2pm).  but of course she only napped today from noon until 12:30pm so by 2:30pm she was soooo tired and ready for her nap. the second we got there and started trying to take pictures she started crying, making HUGE frowny faces, etc. :( we tried walking around, bouncing her up and down, holding her high up in the air, but none of our usual "tricks" was working to get her to be in a better mood...so at 4pm we just gave up and called it quits. poor thing was half asleep and mumbling to herself as we walked from the gardens to our car and fell asleep as soon as we got in the car.

the photographer said that she got a few pictures where A wasn't frowning with the 3 of us but none of her even remotely close to smiling :( today was the only day that Brent had off this month before our photographer goes on bedrest/maternity leave (she is being induced June 3 if the baby doesn't come sooner).

so we are going to try again on Tues with just me and A... I am going to call her as soon as A gets up from her nap and then we are going to meet her at a different botanical garden (closer to where the photographer lives so she can squeeze us until her schedule).  hopefully we will have better luck on Tuesday.

I don't know what it is w/this girl! she was a pain for her newborn shoot, kept crying on us... after 4.5 hrs of trying to get pics we had to reschedule for a 2nd session....and then for her 3 month shoot she was upset most of the time and only calmed down for a few minutes, and then the second the photographer walked out the door she was all smiles!!!  Brent said that his mom told him that he was always the same way for pictures when he was little - maybe she gets it from him :(

I am just sad b/c this was our only opportunity to get some family pictures together.  if I don't love any of the family pics when I see the proofs, I may see if I can get a nestie on my local board to do some photos for us, though I think she is PG and due soon too! *sigh* why can't we have a single photo session go smoothly?

Re: photo shoot = epic fail :(

  • Aww...Jaime, what a bummer.  She's camera shy, or something.  Haha.

I hope you get some good pictures tomorrow!  I wish I was there to practice my skills on you guys.  =P

she will come to us and has in the past but since she is older now we were hoping to get some nice outdoor photos.... but, in this case she can't come to us now b/c she is completely booked except for the one slot we rescheduled for and we need to meet her half way for that session b/c she needs enough time to pick up her kid from school.  it wouldn't be an issue at all if she weren't being put on bed rest by her ob after the end of the week. but, b/c she is, this was the only opportunity we had for family pics :(

  • Aw Jamie I'm so sorry Miss A wasn't at her best. After all that planning you must be so disappointed. Maybe you can schedule a family shoot with another photog....crossing my fingers that the local nestie will be available. I know that doesn't help much I wish there were something I could say to make you feel better. Sending vibes that your shoot on Tuesday.

  • I hope that your next photo session goes extremely well and make up for all the other missed opportunities.
  • Maybe she's afraid that the camera is going to steal her soul. Some babies love the camera... some do not... those in the middle give enough adorable moments, although they are interspersed with spitting up, the grunting poopface, dripping noses, and crying so hard that their little eyes look like Garfield. Poor lil darlin. If you are doing a beautiful outside scene, she doesn't have to look perfect. If you are holding her in a long-shot, she'll just look cute and tiny (you won't notice red eyes). I bet the best close up pictures will be those taken by her parents (yes, you).

  • I feel like this always happens with Bella too. We did her newborn photos and it was Ok at best. She wanted to nurse 10 mins into the session and she had JUST nursed 30 mins earlier... With her 6 month pis, she wouldn't go down for a morning nap and was a crab apple for most of the shoot. We got 3 decent pictures but none of her giant smile or bright sparkling eyes... I'm going to TRY to take her for 9 month photos by just popping into sears... it's a long shot because every time we schedule it fails. I hate to spend tons of money on pics when it never works out. I HOPE *crossing fingers* that for her first bd photo shoot we'll do ok, maybe we'll have naps down by then :) Or not! :)
  • I'm so sorry Jaime...I can relate.  I was a little disappointed regarding my outdoor shoot with Libby two weeks ago...I kept telling myself, "we only need one good shot."  Well, we ended up with about 3, so that was a bonus!  Same for our studio session last week...we got a few good shots out of that hour.  I just want one or two that we can print/frame and put in her baby book.  It is disappointing though when you go through all the time and effort (and expense) and they just don't cooperate.  Babies! Stick out tongue

After last week, I am more committed than ever to get my skills going with our DSLR.  I think I can probably snap some great pics of her when there's no pressure and just capture her cuteness as it unfolds...I gotta read the darn user's manual and maybe get a DSLR for Dummies book or something...

  • Oh! Boo! I am so sorry. I totally get how disappointing that must have been. Someday, you will look at these pictures and tease Miss A for being so fussy! You'll tell her how difficult she was at photo shoots and she'll roll her eyes be like, whatever! And you'll laugh. Someday. :-)

  • Awww Jaime, I wish we lived closer together as I would totally do them for you!   I know how hard it is to get these shots.  Sounds like you have a good and flexible photographer.  Try once more and hopefully she'll be a little angel for you.  Good luck!
