My cousin, Megan, was diagnosed with a very rare form of leukemia about 2 weeks ago. She had what she thought was pnemonia, went to the ER and they found out it was this. The doctors say this is pretty much one of the worst, if not THE worst, leukemia there is. She's in Pediatric ICU in Dallas. She's 23, married, with a 4 year old
The reason she's in pediatric is all cases of this have shown in children. She's the first adult case. She's in research hospital so she's getting the best treatment possible.
She's been on 10 days of chemo. She'll do two weeks on, one week off for the next 6-8 months. She has to stay in the hospital the entire time. If you're in the Dallas area and willing to donate blood (doesn't matter the type) please let me know. If you give they credit her account and blood is expensive! She's needing daily transfusions.
Right now she's responding well to the chemo, she's very week and has to have a respirator, but overall well. If at any time her body doesn't do well on the chemo they'll try and experimental procedure and move on to bone marrow transplants. She doesn't have siblings so our entire family will be tested as a match. There's about 70 of us so hopefully someone will match.
Please keep her in her prayers, and her family. Her son is VERY confused. He can only see his mother through a window. He should be able to hold her hand next week sometime when she's on her week off the chemo.
ETA: her leukemia is called acute myelogenous leukemia
Re: cousin with leukemia *dust please*
Oh no, how horrible!
All my best thoughts and wishes her way, I hope she has a quick fight followed by a full recovery.
