WWYD - Not Satisfied With Service
Ok, just trying to see if others think we can still do something about our kitchen countertop we just had installed. Last Thursday, DH stayed home while the granite countertop was being installed and while they were bringing in the last piece (the middle of the three pieces), they broke off the one piece that goes around the sink as there's a seam that goes through the middle of the cutout for the sink. Because we had such an issue with the shade that we finally picked out (this slab had more grey and less yellow than others we had seen) and the installers said they wanted a chance to fix it, DH let them try because he thought it would be better than getting a new center piece that wasn't the same shade as the two other pieces. (There was only one slab left when we tagged it and they had to bring in another partial slab of the same lot for our countertop.) I had no idea this was going on and DH told me while I was on my way home and after the installers had finished. That night I was livid, they used black epoxy on it (it's a neutral stone with black and a little red throughout it) and the seams are a neutral color. It is totally noticeable. I have to look at it everytime I'm at the sink. We have not yet paid the second 50% for it. Even though we let them leave and didn't ask for a new piece at the time of installation, do we still have the right to make them fix it? I am so bad at complaining about things like this.
Re: WWYD - Not Satisfied With Service
Absolutely!
I would definitely complain and explain to them this is not what you intend to purchase. Like you said, you will have to look at it everyday. I can't imagine they can argue with you if it's clearly noticeable. When you're purchasing a high end counter top like granite you shouldn't have to settle. This was not your fault...they broke it so they can fix it properly or replace it.
I would complain. I can understand why they tried to fix it, but you should tell them you are not happy with the repair job they did.
You might be too late to complain about the break and the decision to repair instead of changing it, but you are definitely not too late to complain about the poor repair job they did. I mean it's just common sense that they would use the same neutral epoxy they used on the other seams and not a black one that stands out.
If they can't repair the seam the might have to change everything. Besides you were not there when that happen, so you can always say that you didn't ok that (even if DH did).
