WWYD: Poll

I will be 25 years old when I get my bachelors degree. I'll be the first of my family to graduate from college (I'm the youngest of 4). My family wants me to walk at graduation but a part of me is a little embarrassed being that I should of graduated 3-4 years earlier. [Poll]

Re: WWYD: Poll

  • No one checks your ID as you cross the stage ;)

  • Don't worry about how old you are - no one is going to know but you and its not as normal as you think to graduate at 22 or 23.
  • It will mean the world to your family, walk.  FWIW, there were people who I graduated with that were in their 60s and beyond.  Age is irrelevant.

  • Walk!  You will never get that opportunity again!

And, graduations are more for the families than the graduates anyway.  Your family will be so happy to see you do it!

  • I chose walk and be proud. That is what I am trying to tell myself. I should graduate this year and most of my friends are. I won't graduate till next year or maybe next December, and I am having a hard time with it. So, you be strong and WALK!

  • You'll never regret that you spent the time and money to do it, but you may regret missing out later in life.

Do it and indulge yourself in the moment!  And congrats!

  • I was in a similar situation. Since I went to night school while I was in the Navy, I got my bachelor's degree from one of those "adult" universities. I was embarrassed to walk because I didn't go to a "real" college. DH and one of my friends convinced me to walk, though I really didn't want to. I'm glad I did. It was a really nice day, and it didn't feel cheezy at all. Now, looking back, I would have regretted the decision had I not walked.
  • Walk if you want to. No one will know your age! And trust me, there will be someone older than you. But in all honestly, be proud of what you have done and STRUT across that stage.
  • If you want to walk, definitely walk! No one really does care about age in college and you probably look just as great and young as those 22 year olds :)

I personally didn't walk because I didn't see the point of sitting in the heat for 4 hours when I could be spending my time celebrating the fact that I actually graduated. My parents, brother and I went drinking around the world at Epcot instead. LOL. I don't regret not walking at all, but college also isn't a *huge* deal in our family, kind of standard, you know. I think you should definitely do it though if it means so much to your family!

And CONGRATULATIONS! Having a college degree is a big deal and is something you can always be proud of, regardless of if you walk or not.
