Baby carriers

Do you have a baby carrier you would recommend?  We have a BabyBjorn, but I don't love it.  I find my back gets too sore.  Charlotte is heavy (about 18lbs), so I am looking for something that will allow me or Curtis to carry her comfortably.  I imagine we will be doing lots of walking while we are in Switzerland (see previous post).

Thanks!

Re: Baby carriers

  • I love the Baby Hawk Mei Tai carriers. There is a great store in Waterloo that has them for a great price.
  • The Moby Wrap is a lifesaver.

  • I have an Ergo.  I love it.
  • I have a Moby and an Ergo and I love both. I think the Ergo might be a bit better for longer walks and hiking though. It is great for your back and both are better for the baby's hips than the Bjorn.
  • I have an ergo and a ring sling. I like both, but the ergo is more comfortable for long periods of time because it distributes the weight over both shoulders. I can also do more with my hands wearing that one. The sling seems to cut of a lot of my range of movement on the one arm.

For lots of hiking carrying I would recommend an ergo. The shoulders are padded which I could see making a nice difference in comfort for the wearer after a long period of time. Very exciting about your trip!

  • I love my ergo. DS2 is 24lbs and I've worn him 8 hours a day on vacations with no back pain. It's fantastic.

  • I suggest getting a soft structured buckle carrier (ergo, angelpack, beco, babyhawk oh snap).  I couldn't use the moby for that long with DS because he was too heavy around 20 pounds and it sagged and got all bunchy after just a short while and needing constant re-tying to keep it tight enough... which was uncomfortable for both of us.  I have an Angelpack and love it-- we used it all the time during the Olympics.  A lot of people swear by the Ergo, but DS sat too low and it didn't fit me right since I'm crazy short.  GL!
