Boudoir Photography Question
Our 1st anniversary is coming up and I was thinking of doing this but I am a little nervous about it . Can it be a more reserved sexy ? My best friend is a photographer and she offered to do a session but would that be a little strange ? I mean she has been like a sister to me since grade school but I wonder if it would be uncomfortable .
TIA
Re: Boudoir Photography Question
I would love to do this!!! and I do not think it would be uncomfortable for a friend to do it..I mean, you would rather have a complete stranger see you in sexy clothes in provacative positions or a friend that you have known forever that will probably make you laugh about it! And I think you can make it was sexy/unsexy as you want!
I actually had a friend do this for me once too. It was hilarious! She actually turned it around and asked me to do the same for her. Neither of us felt we would be comfortable with a stranger (or paying their price!)
Good luck - hope hubby likes them
I have been interested in boudoir for a while now. I'm thinking of doing it as a wedding gift to my fiance. You can make it as sexy as you want. Check out a few websites and get some ideas.
As far as the friend thing, I think I would be more reserved if I had a friend taking my pics, so I probably would want a professional to help guide me.$(document).ready(function(){ $(".ticker .tickerhtml a").attr("href",$(".ticker h1 a").attr("href")); });
I did them and I had a friend take them for me. At first I was nervous because I thought it would be awkward but after we got started I got used to it. My pictures turned out tasteful. I made them into a photo book for DH and there isn't a picture in there that I would be super embarassed if someone accidentally found it. She had done them before so she had some ideas and I had went through different websites and made a list of things I wanted to try which really helped.
I loved taking the pics! Have fun!
Why not shoot something like a 1940's pin up look --- or go for something like a Varga girl look?
It is much more comfortable when a friend does it.
I did this TWICE for my hubby when he was deployed to Iraq...for Christmas and then again for v-day. I had my friend do it as well but we weren't super close and it was not awkward at all. It completely started her off in the Bourdoir department and now does all kinds of pin-up sessions and stuff. I would HIGHLY recommend and so would my hubby! :-) I enjoyed it but I think you have to be totally comfortable with your sexuality in order to not feel like a moron especially when you know the photographer. I kept cracking jokes to my friend while we were doing outfit changes and what not. I also took A LOT of flack from friends that knew I was doing it....but surprisingly my MIL thought it was awesome I did it for her son. lol Yes, weird, I know.
Reserved sexy is what I would consider my first session to be...didn't show any actual body parts. Second session, I felt way more relaxed and showed a bit more. I actually did a sexy photo search and e-mailed my friend before the shoots of what types of poses and things I was aiming for. I think she was just as excited to take them as I was to do them!
Hope this helps and feel free to PM if you want to know more. :-)
Ooh, I can totally weigh in on this as I am a photographer who does boudoir sessions AND I've photographed my friends AND my photographer-friend photographed me as well. (Please don't flame me; I'm not trolling for business, as I'm actually on this board looking for ideas on something else entirely. Ahem.)
Anyway! So, yeah, here's the thing about boudoir sessions- at least how I approach them. Although you will be posing in such a way that shows off your, um, assets, you most likely won't be pretending to feel passion or fake the moves you make in bed. When I conduct a session with a client I don't know personally, I definitely spend time chatting with them ahead of time about what they hope to achieve in the pictures, who the lucky recipient is, what the occasion is, etc. So for a woman who's getting married, we might rock a wedding veil with sexy jeans. For someone sending photos to their beloved who's deployed, we might take some of the photos in a certain piece of lingerie that gets included in the package- nothing too rauncy. One newlywed whose husband is in Aghanistan wore her wedding garter for the pictures, which she sent as a memento since they aren't honeymooning until he returns, that kind of thing.
The best pictures are shot when you feel comfortable and confident. If you think you'd feel comfortable with your friend, by all means, go for it. Remember you don't need to act like a porn star or Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally. I have photographed two of my best friends, one whom I've known since we were five. We didn't spend long; just a couple of poses in their most flattering "go to" date night lacy bits and an awesome pair of high heeled boots.
When my friend took photos of me for a present for my boyfriend, we were cracking up in between shots part of the time. It wasn't weird at all, to be honest.
I've gotta second what the poster above said about 1940s vintage, Varga girl looks. My subjects are actually mostly clothed for those kinds of poses . You should definitely check out www.pinupgirlclothing.com. Vintage-inspired boudoir photography is actually becoming increasingly popular right now in the industry, so much so that I just invested in about $1,000 worth of outfits and shoes from their site for my studio. I also love the look and enjoyed the excuse to invest in patent leather peeptoe heels! You know, for work! Totally tax deductible!
Also, think about getting a manicure and pedicure before your shoot. It's good to "warm up" with a few shots of your feet in sexy shoes, or a shot of you eating a cherry (sounds weird, looks sexy), plus you'll feel more confident. If you have any tattoos, ask your friend to take a few closeups of it. Your beloved will know where it is, so even if it's on your ankle, that is a shot that will get them thinking about your body. Also, when posing, remember that whatever's closest to the camera will appear biggest in the photo. So if you're standing in a sexy pose with your hip jutted out, and that hip is closest to the camera, it's going to look bigger in pictures because of perspective and composition and yadda yadda artsy fartsy concepts. So... bosoms closest the camera=good. Parts of your body that you're self-conscious about=i.e. thighs,=less good.
Unless your friend is really good with the camera, it's best to avoid taking boudoir photos with a camera (like a point and shoot) that uses a direct flash. Direct flash isn't flattering a lot of the time on faces, let alone body parts. Try standing near a with a sheer white curtain (obviously that window should face a private backyard rather than, say, an apartment building.)
Try googling Dita Von Teese and Bernie Dexter for inspiration. They are modern burlesque/pinup models whose pictures run the gamut from playful to supersexy without crossing the line into trashy.
Email me at gypsypeach@aol.com if you have questions; obviously I loooove chatting about this sort of thing!
Have fun! Good luck!
I did a couple of batches when younger and fitter incluiding a set early in my 1st pregancy. When my tummy was still flat but by breasts had turned into stripper boobs.
They range from mild to wild. DH still gets an instant arousal at the sight of them.
When doing the boudoirs I decided to go all the way. Glad I gathered the courage to do it at the time.
