TV Spoilers

I defriended an old aquaintance on facebook who always spoils TV shows in her status updates.  I have a DVR and am always behind on major dramas and reality shows and I personally hate being spoiled.

But what's the new courtesy for discussing TV shows?  With DVRs and internet, lots of people watch shows after the fact, so should their future viewings be spared?  Or is a TV show free game after its first airing?

Re: TV Spoilers

  • I believe there should be at the very least a 24 hour "grace period" before you may FB or tweet about a show. In some cases, when I know I won't be able to view a show live and it's something big (a voted out AI contestant for example) I will avoid social networking if I don't want to be spoiled.

I really hate people who do that, though I may or may not have spoiled something for a certain West Coast J9er a few months ago (can't even remember what show it was). Sorry, SBS!

  • Free game, IMO, but I think a courteous *Spoiler Alert* at the beginning of the post is nice. BTW, you could have hidden her instead of unfriending her ;)  I have a couple people hidden so I never have to read what they say, but they don't have to know about it.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

I know, I have quite a few people hidden.  But I've been trying to make an effort to reduce my facebook friends and reduce the number of people who have access to me.  She was just an old aquaintance and it was really time to let her go.

  • Ah, gotcha.  If I unfriended the people I have hidden, it would make for some awkward family get togethers. :)

  • Don't go on facebook or Twitter if you don't want to know. Especially if you're a west-coaster.

Yeah, I get that, and I avoid posts that are about shows I haven't seen.  It seems like for a while there, everyone became real aware of spoilers, and now I think everyone's sick of it and just see everything as fair game.

  • I think it's so freaking rude and inconsiderate when people do this. Those who have done this on my FB list are hidden and/or defriended.
