photo shoot, take 2.....

so, today didn't go as planned, either, but it was better than Sunday at least :)

she woke up on her own about 8:30am so I thought "great, she'll want to nap around 10:30-11 and then when she wakes up we can go do the photos and it'll be perfect timing."

well, she nursed from 9-10:30 and around 10am she started nursing half asleep... I thought she'd just drift off and stay asleep but every once in a while when I pull her off the boob she'll wake up and of course this was one of those times!! she was wide eyed and bushy tailed!! I tried getting in the rocking chair w/her and rocking her back to sleep but it was no go and by 11am I called my photographer and told her I was going to put her in the car and see what happens... so my photographer said she'd meet me at noon and if she fell asleep in the car, we'd let her nap, otherwise we'd try to get some photos in... by the time I got her loaded into the car it was about 11:20 and it was a 30 min drive to the garden.  about 15 min into the car ride, she fell asleep and I thought (again) "perfect! now I can let her nap and she'll wake up refreshed and we won't even lose any "happy awake time" to traveling."  wrong. as soon as I got to the garden she woke up!! grrrr

so, we decided to try and get some pics. she was actually a lot better this time and was semi happy for the first few images, which were the mommy & me images I wanted to get, so I am very thankful for that.  after that, she wasn't crying but she wasn't smiling either.    towards the end she got cranky so we only got to do the 2 outfits instead of 3 (we even stopped for about 30 min while i nursed her and let her take a mini power nap in the car w/me).... the photographer said we got some good pictures even though there weren't a lot of smiling pics... so overall I think I am fairly happy with the shoot, even though it could have gone a lot better.

I think she's just camera shy or freaks out when a stranger is there w/a big huge camera in front of her.  I thought she was cranky at the end of the shoot b/c she was tired but on the way home she only napped another 15 min but was still all smiles and giggles when I brought her inside the house.  every huge grin she gave me just made me think "why couldn't she have done that earlier today?!" oh well.  now i anxiously await the sneak peak pics :)

just goes to show you that babies do things on their own schedules and on their own terms ;)

Re: photo shoot, take 2.....

  • Seriously, she is camera shy.  Sounds like you got some good shots this time, though.  Can't wait to see!

  • Ooooh, boo! Yeah, she might be camera shy, or afraid of the camera? Do you take lots of photos of her at home? Maybe that would help get her used to it? She might just be an introvert and not like smiling for strangers. Every baby is different....

I take tons of pics at home w/her!! (hundreds each month!) but i have a small silver canon, not a big black DSLR camera, ya know? so maybe that is what scares her? I don't know. my brother just gave me his old one so maybe once I start taking lots of pics using that camera, she'll get used to it...

  • We almost took prof. pictures with a photographer who has a bunch of kids and she told me that she would need to meet with us 20 minutes earlier to "get to know" Brooke so that she wouldn't be shy. Maybe that would help miss A-- if you set aside some time in the beginning so the photographer and miss A can play and she can even see the camera up close and whatnot?
