Sharp pain near ovary and on bc... not time for period

Just wondering if it's possible to ovulate while on b/c? Sharp pain every now and then for past few days. Usually lasts for 30 mins, then goes away. I'm midway in my b/c pack.

  • Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. NO, it is not possible to ovulate while on the pill, which is how it works. You can ovulate while on BC if you don't take it correctly, or are on medication which could interfere with its absorption. Otherwise, no.

  • Depends on your birth control. Birth control can work several ways. It can work by halting ovulation, or it can work by increasing the size and thickness of the uterine wall. This change removes the possibility of implantation after conception.

Wrong. If this was true, the perfect use efficacy would be 100%. It's not. RARELY women can ovulate. It can happen more often if you're a larger lady and on a low dose pill.

But, you would only ovulate once a cycle. If you're getting this pain on and off for several days, it's most likely not mittelshcmerz.

  • I have ovarian cysts that show up every now and then, and they are very painful.  I discovered them after a trip to the hospital before BC, but now my BC controls the pain...it sometimes still shows up.
  • I would want to know this one too.

Actually, it decreases the amount built up in your uterus so that a fertilized egg cannot implant.  The built up uterine wall is what is shed during your period.  The fact that BCPs decrease this build up is reason why your period usually decreases while on the pill.

  • This may sound wierd but it could be gas pains.  I get really bad gas pains in that area and thought that they meant I had a problem.  Turns out I have IBS and its just pain associated with it.  Just an idea that it may not be related to ovulation at all.

  • You can still get ovarian cysts even on the pill.  I have had them since 17 and still get them on occasion, despite BC. But it could be something else too, like IBS, something with your kidneys or even stomach.  So I also agree that it could or could not be related.

  • I had something similar about 9 years ago.  I turned out to be tumours in my ovaries.  If the pain is lasting for 30 minutes or more, and is focused on one side of your body at a time, get it checked out right away.

You CAN get ovulatory cysts while on the pill, although rare, it happens.  It happened to me last month!

  • With Blueeyez, I have IBS too and pain down there can have to do with bowel habits. It could be gas pains, consipation or cramping from that.
