The county supervisor that represents my district is on the finance committee and is holding a town hall on the proposed county budget. The county exec has proposed slashing the pay of my job to ~$11/hour. My coworkers and I have been compiling info on the pay for similar jobs in other counties and on the median salaries of law school grads in the area. She's a lawyer and is a big supporter of transit (which pits her against the county exec), so I'm hoping she'll by very supportive of us.
My husband is helping me get all the data together and wants us to go early to try to talk to her one-on-one. I've never had any interest in local politics before. I'm getting a little excited, in a geeky sort of way. I also hope that we save our jobs!
No worries, we'll DVR the debate in case we get back after it starts.
Re: Going to my first local political meeting tonight!
Have fun!!! I am involved in local politics for the first time this year as well. I am campaigning for a man running for city counsel. Local politics can be really fun/rewarding becuase it can be so much more hands on.
Good luck getting a one on one!
