Mother's Day plans?

So what do you all have planned for Sunday?

I'm not a mom myself so we're just taking my mom out to dinner to celebrate, which is our usual tradition.  She pretty much always wants Italian when we go out, so I found us a new-to-us place to try: http://www.yelp.com/biz/alia-ristorante-winthrop

I considered the North End but given that it's a Sunday and a holiday I didn't even want to try to deal with the long waits and no parking.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Re: Mother's Day plans?

  • You will love Alia. I love that place. They have a great spicy gnocchi. IT's not on the menu, just ask them to make it for you. They will blend spinach into the sauce if you wish. So good. It is BOYB so take a bottle of wine.

Stella is where we took my mom last year for brunch. They had free valet.

We are flying into Little Rock early Friday and surprising my mom for the weekend. She is going to die. As soon as we get there, we are going to give her a cd we made announcing the news of Baby Booster. It will be a memorable weekend.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!  How far along are you?  I had no idea, though I knew you guys wanted to start trying.  What a great way to celebrate Mother's Day, your mom is going to love it!

Glad to hear another Yes on Alia, though I'm surprised you've been there given how suburban it is Wink  Thanks for the tip about the spicy gnocchi, too; DH might really like that.  And I definitely made note of the BYOB and will be taking advantage!

OMG Punky!! Did I miss this announcement?! :) Congratulations!!! That's so exciting you're going out to surprise your mom with the news :)

We don't really have any plans since neither of our mothers live here. We sent cards and little gifts but we can't drive down to NY this weekend so we might take my MIL out when we see her in a few weeks. Hopefully my mom will be able to come up soon too but Mother's Day is just going to be a phone call this year :(

I do remember the La Siesta rec from a while back and DH loves Mexican but we haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

  • This year we're actually not doing anything for Mother's Day. I'm working the morning shift and then DH and I are heading to Ithaca, NY for a few days. We're doing the wineries around Lake Cayuga. Stick out tongue So excited!

I did send my grandmother and mother a card and I'm sure we'll get together eventually, but nothing specific on that day this year.

And congratulations Punky!!! Happy Mother's day to you!

    Congrats!  That's so exciting!

Both our moms are back in the Midwest.  My mom's flying out in a couple weeks for graduation though, so we'll do something then.

  • My Dad's extended family gets together for Mother's Day, mainly to celebrate my little cousins birthday (it just dawned on me how weird this is). We'll be having a BBQ in Quincy, I'll probably get my Mom some godiva chocolates since all my bro's always get her flowers.

We are hosting a barbecue for MIL at our house on Sunday.

Yay, Punky's out of the closet!! I caught a mention of "after this baby" in a thread on GP and responded but in case you didn't see it, congrats!!!!

My mom lives in FL so no plans for me, I'm sure "Brady" will give me a card though, haha, he may be a dog but I'm still his mommy! Stick out tongue

  • Punky you little sneak, congratulations! That is wonderful :-)

We have no idea what the plans are for mother's day. Neither of our mothers has their act together lol. I have no idea if I will be recognized this year or not, we'll see if DH does anything. I'm not expecting it, but it would definitely be nice :-)

    Congrats Punky!!!

We are having breakfast at my parents house for Mother's Day... not really looking forward to it! I hate breakfast with my family-- they are a challenging bunch foodwise.

  • OMG, congrats Punky!  We did something similar for DH's mom the year we got engaged.  We made a last minute drive out to his home town, DH proposed, and then the next day we showed up at her house all "Happy Mother's Day!  We're engaged!"  She was freaking out and crying, it was awesome.  The best part was probably that we parked down the street and DH called her on the phone to make sure she was home, then as we were walking through the yard the dog started barking, and she was like "What is this stupid dog barking about?  OMG!  I have to call you back!  [DH name] is here!!!"

This year will not be nearly as exciting.  I think we are just going out for brunch with my mom and siblings, as usual.

  • Congratulations Punky!! How lucky are you you get to surprise your mom on Mother's day with the news. So cute.

As for Mother's Day, we have no idea yet either. J's grandma is in the hospital so I'm sure at some point we'll go visit her, but we may go on Saturday instead of Sunday. The only thing I've got planned is to make my ggmother's chocolate cake for my gmother and mom. I want to surprise them with it, they'll love it. And chocolate cake sounds sooo yummy.
