and I am...hesitant.
Now, I know it'll be good for us as a couple to spend time together outside, getting exercise, etc, etc, but I am scared! Almost everything I hear about the sport is how frustrated people are with their performance, even after years and years of practice.
I can't imagine my first lesson will be anything less than hideous, both in my performance and in the language spewing from my mouth. I'm totally up for trying new things, but learning golf is quite the undertaking.
I thought I could weasel my way out of it--I said "when you try yoga, I'll try golf." And what do you know, DH is coming with me to yoga this weekend and expects me to sign up for a golf less on the following weekend. He knows he's going to stink at it, but he's willing to humiliate himself to make me try something he knows I'm going to stink at. Ugh, way to call my bluff, jerk.
Do any of you play? Have you had any positive or extremely frustrating experiences with it?
Re: DH wants me to take up golf
That's what DH says. I should accept that I'm going to be terrible (he thinks he is) and just have a good time being outdoors, but the competitive person in me thinks this is going to be difficult.

I think it's really cute that he wants to find more ways to spend time with you! And that he's going to yoga? Awesome!!!
Give golf a chance, and don't take it too seriously. Hell, I did it with World of Warcraft, and it wasn't nearly as bad I thought it was going to be.
Do you think he'll compromise with frisbee golf if regular golf doesn't work out?
I'm going to have to do it now. DH is committed to bikram this weekend, which means I am committed to golf the next. Mom knows a good female pro at their golf course she can hook me up with, so hopefully that won't be too awful.
I think it's really sweet that he wants to spend time together, too. He gets lonely on the course by himself and I love that he wants me there to fill that void. I just hope I don't end up frustrating him with my pokeyness.

...Maybe he'll be so sore from Bikram that he'll change his mind?
Nah, he'll have a week to recover. I'm really tempted to go to Bikram Friday night and then say "Sorry Honey, I'm way too sore to golf today," but then that would only get me a week's extension and a lot of dirty looks.
