Re: Green Water Bottle
I've gone through 4 bottles in the past few years. Here's what I've had and liked/disliked about them.
Widemouth Nalgene
Likes: never leaked, didn't get floaties in it when washed on the top rack of the dishwasher, held a lot of water, had a tethered and un-losable cap,
Dislikes: awkward for me to hold because I have small hands, too big for water bottle pocket of my backpack and car cup holder, hard to drink out of when driving (could have been solved by getting one of these splashguards or a CapCap)
Narrowmouth Nalgene:
Likes: never leaked, easy to drink out of while driving, held a lot of water, had the tethered and unlosable cap
Dislikes: awkward to hold, too big for backpack and cup holder, got floaties in it when washed in the dishwasher, hard to fit ice cubes in
Kleen Kanteen:
Likes: narrow enough to fit in backpack and cup holder, stainless steel so it doesn't need to be lined, water seemed to stay colder than Nalgene's,
Dislikes: dented both times it was dropped and wouldn't stand up without wobbling like crazy, metal feels yucky to drink out of, can't see inside it to ensure there are no floaties after washing, cap is not tethered and easy for me to lose, CapCap didn't fit without leaking, Splashguard fell in
Nalgene On the Go:
Likes: narrow enough to fit into backpack and cup holder, doesn't leak even when using a CapCap, wide enough that there aren't floaties after being washed in the dishwasher and can see through the bottle to double check
Dislikes: doesn't hold as much water, it is still plastic even though it's BPA free,
Right now, my ideal bottle is a Nalgene OTG. If I could find a stainless bottle like the KK that would let me use the CapCap without leaking, though, I'd go with that. Even with the dents and wobbling. ; )
I've blogged about my experience. Here is a link: http://moregreenforlessgreen.blogspot.com/search/label/Water%20Bottles. The oldest entry (on the bottom) is the start of my comparing. The higher entries are newer.
.
Back before BPA-free was the rage, I had regular Nalgenes and loved them. When the whole BPA thing came to the forefront, I bought a Sigg and a "Bean Kanteen" (a Klean Kanteen sold by LL Bean).
I don't like that the Sigg is not dishwasher safe. I go have a sport cap on it, which is nice, and I have a carabiner on it to attach it to stuff, which I like. It's also really pretty. However, it's got a narrow mouth, and I don't use it much at all. In fact, if anyone wants it, I would be glad to send it to you. It's purple.
I got the largest Klean Kanteen I could, which was 27 ounces. It has a much wider mouth than the Sigg, and it is dishwasher-safe, which I love. I am able to see clean to the bottom of it, and I never worry about whether or not it's clean. I really like it.
Now that Nalgene bottles come in BPA-free styles, my next bottle will be a Nalgene.

This is me too.
Ya'll are awesome. From your reviews, I've decided to go with Nalgene OTG. Now, I just have to get my but to REI.
Thanks again
