Random: How to decorate pool for party?
I'm throwing an anniversary party for my parents in a few weeks. It's outdoors so I want to do something creative with their pool. Are fake lily pads cheesy? What else can I do to jazz up the space? I'm planning on hanging Chinese lanterns from the trees and maybe wrap a couple of trees in white Christmas lights and/or hang mini-lantern light strings from their pergola and outdoor kitchen bar.

I think luminaries would look really pretty around (along the edge) or in the pool. How to have luminaries in the pool, though, I have no idea!

you can buy a lot of colorful pool 'floaties' and have them sitting in the pool. they also have large blow up palm trees at the dollor store.
Actually, I'd suggest just checking out the dollar store for a lot of stuff. They generally have pretty cute summer stuff.

I like the floating luminaries/candles idea. But, I would try to tie a string to maybe some diving toys or something to sort of anchor the candles in their spots. Otherwise, the wind (even if you think it's non-existent) will push them all into the same side/corner of the pool and the effect won't be quite the same.
With the lanterns and the wrapped trees, it sounds like it's going to be beautiful! Good luck!
