1pm bridal shower--food

quick--no thinking--if you are invited to a 1pm bridal shower do you expect lunch or heavy snacks or something else.

There are no wrong or right answers here, I'm just looking to see what most of you might "expect."

And if it matters, for those of you who come from different areas of the country where expectations might be different, give me your bigger expectation over your smaller one (if if up in NY you'd expect a lunch at that time, but down here you might only expect cheese/fruit, tell me lunch.)  TIA!!

Re: 1pm bridal shower--food

  • I would think heavy snacks as I generally think of lunch being at 12.
  • I'm thinking snacks.

  • I'd think heavy snacks. Though I don't think I've ever been to a shower that actually had lunch or just cheese/fruit if hosted as someone's home. What changes a shower from being lunch vs. heavy snacks, an actual sit down lunch? B/c I feel like usually there are little mini sandwiches or chicken salad that are lunch ish but there are also other dips/ hors d'oeurves so I'd consider heavy snacks.
  • I just made a bunch of dip last weekend and I'm already fantasizing about more dips for a shower in a couple weeks. Are you making any dip, and if so, what kind?
  • I would say a snacky lunch.  Like lots of little sandwiches.  But I defintitely mean much more on the lunch side of things.  I definitely wouldn't be expecting light snacks or just cheese and fruit.
  • i would expect food. more along the lines of lunch. but a simple appetizer buffet is fine - chicken salad & pimeno sandwiches, pasta salad, fruit & veggie tray, etc...

  • Awesome!! Thanks for your feedback ladies!!

And Terp, my only feeling is that if a shower was scheduled at, say 11:30 or noon, it would be legitimately expected to serve an actual meal.  It might just be sandwiches and some sides, but that to me is still a meal.  Something that starts at say 2:30 would signal (to me) "refreshments and light snacks only".  Our invite didn't specify, but the ideas I have in my head go along very well with what most of you have suggested!!

  • I would think heavy snacks.
  • I would expect there to be enough food to equal lunch. I probably would not eat lunch beforehand.
